Corbijn To Helm Wilson’s Joy Division Pic
Photographer Anton Corbijn, probably best known as the official videographer of
Depeche Mode, has signed on to direct a biopic on Ian Curtis, the doomed lead singer of British
goth-pop band Joy Division. The film, to be produced by ex-Joy Division manager Tony Wilson (the
subject of 2002's 24 Hour Party People) and Curtis' widow Deborah Curtis for Orion
Williams and Todd Eckert's Claraflora shingle, is looking to begin production in Manchester
this fall. In a statement, Claraflora's Williams insisted that the planned film is "not your typical biopic. It gives
you some sort of understanding of who (Curtis) was." Let's hope so - or else they'll only have mobs of angry, aging
goths to answer to.
