The SIN CITY Comparison Library

After bandwith issues forced Film Rot to take down their side-by-side, Frank Miller/Robert Rodriguez, graphic novel panel/film still comparisons, we thought we'd step in and pull together every pair we could find on the net. This one on the right is from Yahoo! - and there are plenty more after the jump. We'll be adding continuously over the next few days, so check back often. Also, if you have your own images, paste a link in the comments and we'll post them here (with your credit, of course). From comics.ign.com:

True, they were very good. I'd like to see Frank Miller's Hard Boiled or Ted McKeever's(sp) Metropol too.

stray bullets? or hard boiled? what about "the dark knight returns? personally i think it's miller's best work. and EVERY batman movie so far has been pretty bad. after seeing sin city, my standards of quality comic book movies is at an all time high.

the cinematography in this film is incredible. alot of people did not like the movie because of the level of violence, but then again most of those people are probably unappreciative for arts. the movie was great. stay true to the grahic novel. hope they do something similar to spawn rather then that flop few yrs back.

Hi there. My name is Simon Jerry. I like to talk about things like this. Or, which just came into my brain immedialtely after is that which I cannot explain because no one can really explain the thought process that each and every one of us perform each and everyday, yet is different for each person. So I really liked how this brought that together with how the movie looked, not being familiar with the comic myself. But yes, the film was indeed great, and the comparison shows dead on so I say it was quite accurate in how it portrayed the comic. They did a great job on that and I have also gained respect for Robert Rodriguez but is has to be noted that Quentin Tarantino as special guest director definitely added to the mix. I enjoyed it and I can't wait for the dvd.

Am I the only sane person around? This movie was utterly boring. Instead of taking three of Frank Millers story lines, should have kept it with one. The movie would not end. The constant voice-over got annoying and tedious. As did everyone telling everone else they loved them, even when they barely knew them. Much better comic book based movies have been done.

The film had an interesting look, but the story was a mess. Parallel plots all over the place, way too many characters... and none that we really cared about. And the only loyalty with any explanation was between Alba & Willis's characters.
In the end, BORING.

Personally, I would love to see "100 bullets"... make it into a trilogy, it sure has enough intrigues, suspense and actions for everyone... not to mention beautiful screen shots and amazing angles...
at least, they could make it into a TV serial or something...

This site has 2 scene/still shot comparisons not included on your site. Specifically the shots are the ones when marv is kicking in the cop cars window, and when the glass shatters.

The first scene comparison on the link above shows after jr and hartigan have been shot.
http://comics.ign.com/articles/596/596652p1.html -the first 2 scene comparisons on this page of the site are of nancy stripping, and marv smoking while talking to wendy.

It should be noted that QT's involvement was paying back RR for working on Kill Bill 2's score for $1.00. QT directed the Jackie Boy car dialogue scene.

I saw this over the weekend and I was floored. At first, the voiceover really threw me, but that soon gave way to awe at what a completely realized film this was. I didn't have a whole lot of respect for Rodriguez's work before this, but all that has changed.
By the way, has anybody ever thought of doing the same treatment with David Lapham's Stray Bullets? I loved his stories even more than Sin City's.

That 'Marv in rain' comparison from Film Rot is wrong, though. The shot from the book shown is Roark's statue, not Marv.
