A collection of never-before displayed items from the estate of
Marilyn Monroe will be auctioned off in Los Angeles on June 4. Included in the lot: designer dresses, a portrait Monroe intended to give JFK, and her personal address book, full of numbers of former husbands and lovers such as
Frank Sinatra,
Joe DiMaggio and
Arthur Miller. The lot will be on display at Barclay Butera from May 31 until June 3 - if you can stomach it. I understand that there's a lot of money to be made off of these sorts of things - but considering the sadness surrounding Monroe's death, the idea of so many of her personal items sitting in a room together, reeking of Chanel No. 5 and broken dreams - it just kind of gives me the creeps.

It saddens me to see that 40 years after her death, the public is still exploiting her. I know she's a legacy, but can't we cherish her without hounding her wares? Sincerely, someone who can't afford to be there:)
