Fast Food Nation: The Movie
Richard Linklater is so back, it's not even funny. He's got one summer blockbuster candidate (Bad News Bears) in the can, and one sci-fi art film (A Scanner Darkly) in post, and this fall he'll direct an adaptation of Eric Schlosser's non-fiction phenomenon Fast Food Nation, starring Oscar nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno. Variety is calling the project a "fictionalized thriller"; Jeremy Thomas and Sex Pistols impresario Malcolm McLaren will produce for Thomas' Hanway Films, and shooting will begin this fall.

A fictionalized thriller? Nonsensical, if you know anything about the book...

In no way should this be a fictional based movie--what I am reading sickens me and I think it is time that America learned the truth about the cozy relationship between coporate America and the government--from federal right down to the local. Of course, we have been able to see it every day lately and most of America does not care, because hey it does not affect my little world they live in--or so they think! As Hurricane Katrina opened a few eyes (for how long, who knows--Americans have a short attention span) a documentary based on this book might open a few eyes also. We can only hope.

Lets give Linklater and Eric Schlosser a chance. We already know that Schlosser is a good writer and Linklater kicks ass. I'm interested to see how this movie turns out.
