Poor
Rory Gilmore Alexis Bledel. She's starring in a new film called
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, which I guess is one of those "novels" that made it on the bestseller list without anyone but teenage girls noticing. The website for the film is
decidedly weird: hardly a blip about the movie, except for suggestions about engaging in "Sisterhood Text Messaging!" Obviously the film is targeted to the 'tweens (I just discovered that word), and since Random House is the film's backer, I'm assuming this is just a quickly slapped together film to boost book sales. So quickly slapped together that Metacritic has absolutely
nothing to say about it. Anyway, all I wanted to point out is that the film's title is
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Say it with me: Traveling PANTS.

my wife is a former kids department bookseller (b&n employee). she says the pants series is a member of that small yet 'delightful' group of books that actually talks honestly etc... she also seems to think the movie for this book will be in the same vein as 'Holes' being extremely close to the book and directed and a demographic that goes out to see the movie in theaters multiple times followed by buying the dvd since they already follow the book series (i think they're on the 4th installment) more avidly than a serie of unfortunate events reader.

Maybe you should READ the book before you criticize it. If you actually knew anything you'd know that this is a book that touches the hearts of teens and adults alike, it is rich with emotion and issues that plague real life people, it’s something you can relate to and feel connected to. Not only does this book have deep characters, but it is written magnificently and its not some sappy teeny book that is all about boys and hair, it deals with other problems faced by girls to.
By the way ever heard of things being not literal. The pants don't "travel" people aren’t idiots to think that, they are shared by four best friends that use them to stay connected over there first summer apart, so they use the pants to in a different original way to stay in tune with each other. Its a great read and maybe next time before belittling something you could do your research and actually READ THE book and SEE the movie, (which I must say might not hold as true to the book from the previews I've seen)
besides you don't just get on to the bestsellers list because I few teens read the book, if that was the case there would be a lot more "Teeny" crap and lot less Goldie Han.

I totally agree with Ami. This book has four different AMAZING characters, so everyone has someone to connect with. Sometimes people tend to get anal over things they don't comprehend... Are you sure you understand the amazing, powerful book your demeaning and belittling?

Sure, I may have that masters in comparative literature and all, but who said I was demeaning the book? I didn't even presume to review the book--the book may be good, it may even be the great, but the title of this website is Cinematical, if you've haven't noticed.
As for whole "literal" part, Ami, do you even have a sense of humor? Traveling Pants. Words = Absurd Imagery = Funny. Now, everyone put down your B&N discount card and back away from the computer...
