Episode III Bit Torrent Update
Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy
Monday we reported about the first appearance of what appeared to be Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith on the Bit Torrent network. After a twenty-something hour download, many reports have come in that the torrent file is a fake, containing a 700mb info file and a 450kb mpg. This is what is called an anti-torrent, which could have possibly been created as a diversion by the studio or MPAA. If you remember, the same thing happened on the MP3 file sharing networks with corrupted song files. If this is indeed a step taken by the studios or MPAA, I'm pretty sure this would be their first attempt of this kind on the bit torrent networks. I have recieved e-mails saying that there is a real file out there. Where? Again I can't say due to the DMCA. I'm sure the discussion will continue on the boards and on IRC...

An easy giveaway is the fact that VCDQuality or nForce have no mention of the release.
The torrent creator isn't necessarily the MPAA either, people enjoy screwing around with people more than the MPAA loves lawsuits.

First indication should have been the 700mb info file. You do realize you don't have to wait the entire 20 hours before you can see a list of the files and their respective sizes.

There are things to torrent, like : alexander, any j.lo movie, harold and kumar fiasco, etc.
I'd actually be ashamed of paying to see one of these... But any jackass that torrents Episode 3, and watches it with piss-poor quality on some 15 inch monitor, actually deserves the ruined expirience.
Im going to see it twice tonight... and Im kinda sad that this is the last time in my life that I'll be this exited to see a flick...
...well, unless they make forrest gump 2: return of the 'tard.

While yes, the torrent you spoke about was a fake , it doesn't appear to be an anti-torrent. It was an advertisement for another site posing as a legit torrent. This is not uncommon on P2P.
However, there IS a legit leak of Episode III. It's an almost 1.5 DVD-R ISO workprint. Great quality other than the fact that the timecode is ever present.

I used to agree whole-heartedly with this sentiment....
But last night, the quality of the projection was so poor I'm starting to see the appeal of pirating. At least you have some control of what you're watching. At the average multi-plex these days, you're at the mercy of some stupid high-schooler who barely knows the difference between a movie projector and a popcorn popper. They didn't bring in the masking at the top of the screen and it sounded like the surround wasn't on - really poor quality.
Anyway, don't go see it at the Mann Marketplace 4 in Glendale, CA - you'll regret it.

Remember, if you're getting the DVDR version released by ViSA, you should also grab and apply the aspect ratio fix. I haven't seen it on BT, but you can get it from most of the other usual places.

Trust me. It's out there. A legit copy. I'm not going to say where I got it for fear that they'll come down on this program like they did with bittorrent, but I will say that it's a P2P shareware. Someone has it up as a 3 part .avi file. Very good quality.
Sorry, George. If it makes you feel better, I did go see it opening day and I will probably buy the DVD too.

It's nice that a DVD type copy exists out there on Torrent, but it doesn't do me any good for someone who doesn't have a DVD burner to unravel the Image file. It actually works on a CD burner, but it comes out with all the scenes scrambled. As in it only shows a few seconds of one scene then just shifts to a randomly different scene. So it would be a nice if someone knew of a video file copy, any format. Plenty of hard drive space I got!
