Of course it's not about the gays!

The Columbine school district in Colorado won't let a new film, The Sensei (dir. Diana Lee Inosanto), shoot on location. The district claims it doesn't want to open old wounds by having scenes of "bullying" interrupt the "healing community." That the film also deals with a gay youth in the 80s, who learns to defend himself with martial arts (just like the Karate Kid!) after news of the national AIDS crisis turns him into a punching bag for the high school jocks, has nothing to do with the school board's decision, I'm sure.

I live in Colorado, I was working 2 blocks from the school when the shooting happened. I was then banned from ever entering my own former high school for any reason. They thought I was going to pull that same stupid act, cuz I and my circle all wore black more often than not. We are not "still healing". People are now talking seriously about the societal issues which led to that tragedy. Not as if it has helped anything. The "bullying" situation is still deplorable, especially against gay kids. Even after Gus Van Sant's genius film, which I know of nobody here who saw. This is the first I am hearing of this story. Nothing in the papers or on the news. Thank you for reporting this.
