I think I'm going to be in the "believe-it-when-I-see-it" camp on this one, but reports are floating around (again) that a movie based on
The Simpsons is in pre-production. Nancy Cartwright, voice of Bart Simpson, tells BBC 1, "We've just done the table read for the
Simpsons movie so although we've been promoting that we're going to
do it, now we're actually doing it and are in production." Details are still sketchy - "I don't
know the name of it and I can't go into details about it," says Cartwright - but she did say that it will probably take at least two years to make, which makes sense - I once read that it takes at least a year to make a single, half-hour
Simpsons episode, from script meeting to voice sessions to animation to air. Cartwright, for her part, has faith that the project will be worth the wait. "I think it's going to be great and the
fans are going to dig it." [via The Movie Blog]

I always believed Groening wouldn't do a Simpsons movie until after the TV show had gone off air. Saw an article with him a year or so ago where he talked about feeling like they were running out of gas. Every time I watch the show I think it's fresh and funny. Hard to imagine what they will do with the movie, although the two-parter with Mr. Burns being shot was a good sample of what a longer Simpsons movie might be like.
Wonder if we'll finally learn where Springfield is really located?
