Liz Smith gets catty on Bewitched

Gossip columnist Liz Smith has gone to see Bewitched, and she's come back with a bucket full of mean-streaked praise. Each of her puffy white clouds of non-critique ("I think Nicole Kidman may actually be a witch! ... [she] appears to be about 18 or 19 here.") has a barbed-wire lining ("People who long for the original Meg Ryan will find themselves very satisfied with Nicole"). The orignal Meg Ryan? You mean, like As The World Turns, or more like Amityville 3-D? Is that even a compliment, or should we start reviewing the Oscar recall procedures?

I took "the original Meg Ryan" to mean before she got her facework done, you know, when she did good rom-com.
