Contest Alert! Write a rap, go to a screening
Filed under: Site Announcements

Okay, kids - time for another contest. We have passes to give away for two screenings, one in New York and one in Los Angeles, of Craig Brewer's Hustle and Flow. Produced by John Singleton and starring Terrence Howard, Anthony Anderson, Taryn Manning and Ludacris, Flow follows a Southern pimp (Howard) as he tries to head off a mid-life crisis by launching a rap career. The film won the Audience Award at this year's Sundance Film Festival, and was at the center of the festival's biggest deal.
So, what do you have to do to see it before its big release? Write us a rap, at least 12 but no more than 24 lines long, telling us why we should send you and your guest to a screening. Post it in the comments, and be sure to include, somewhere in the rap, the city you'd like to see the film in (FYI, the Los Angeles screening is on June 28 at 7:30 pm, and the New York screening is on July 7 at 4pm). Both winners, after having seen Hustle and Flow, will have the opportunity to write a short review of the film here on Cinematical. As usual, entries will be judged on all-around originality and laugh-out-loud funniness.

Rappin and tappin might be your thing,
talklin a song instead of trying to sing
bringing it home to the streets of New York
southern man might find some work
Let me check it out and give you my view
people will listen, I'm telling you.
Let me see if Sundance was right
with a pair of tickets for a Saturday night.
Hustle and Flow is the name of the flick
Will Brewer's latest make a click
with the urban hoods and the high class chic?
Or will it sink like a brick?
Only time will tell

Yo pass those tickets on over my way,
so I can confidently say,
whether it was awesome or stunk like crap,
so you dont have to spend your money and end up a sap.
I'll check out the movie over in New York City,
and spell out for you all the nitty-gritty,
details like whether its fit too be seen,
and what Ludacris is doing in the movie scene.
Have to see it before I can know,
whether this movie Hustle and Flow,
has enough cred to roll with the best,
only one way to find out,
let's put it to the test.

Get Up I get Down,
Get Up I get Down,
Get Up I get Down,
Trying to make a dollar out of what makes sense
Even trying to catch a movie, when I can’t make rent
I'm just a young man dreamin bout big things,
When we all know it's "hard out here for a pimp"
but you just gotta flow with the hustle
make some money in the bustle
even write a review for cinematical,
aint that grammatical
Navigate the treacherous, make it seem effortless
I look back at the streets when they watchin,
and aint no city I rather be watchin
then...
New York, New York
