Just in case you thought VHS tapes were going to make some kind of vinyl-esque comeback, Wal-Mart is here to tell you,
you're wrong. The uber-retailer is ditching the plastic format after holiday 2005, meaning they'll hang around long enough to reap the Christmas profits, and then, when your 83-year old grandmother wants to return
The Santa Clause in exchange for
Mr. and Mrs. Smith she'll be out of luck. Wal-Mart isn't the only one with VHS-ire: Target is planning its escape, and Best Buy and Circuit City have already trimmed their shelves of the ancient (but still useful! I swear!) format.

It's unfortunate that the VHS is becoming a thing of the past. It truly revolutionized the movie world and will now fall by the wayside with the likes of 8 track recorders, reel to reel tapes and good old vinyl discs called records. May you rest in peace.

You won't have to Shawn. Like any piece of electronic equipment with moving parts, your VCR will eventually break down. And when it happens, it will likely be too cost prohibitive to warrant repairing or it will simply be impossible to repair because the required replacement parts are no longer available.
Be prepared because I assure you this will happen in due time. Sometimes you just gotta say goodbye to old, obsolete technology. It's just the way our culture operates...
