Did Marlon Brando die for the right reasons?
Filed under: Classics, Celebrities and Controversy
It's been almost a year since Hollywood legend Marlon Brando died of pulmonary fibrosis - but did he have to go when he did? Philip Rhodes, a close friend of the Godfather star, has his suspicions, and a new Playboy "expose" has his comments to that effect. The notoriously reclusive Brando hated doctors and hospitals, and recieved most of his medical care at hime, at the hands of his maid/mistress. Rhodes says he became concerned when he found out that the maid (in cahoots with her sister, a registered nurse) had been giving Marlon injections of a painkiller which enlarged his liver. "About a week before he died," says Rhodes, "They found a
tremendous growth. Why hadn't that been found earlier? If they had
operated, maybe he'd be alive today." But if that's the case, what's more to blame? Marlon Brando's possibly-shady lover/de facto caregiver? Or the fact that Marlon Brando was such a freak that he let his possibly-shady lover/de facto caregiver shoot him full of dope because he didn't want to go to the doctor?

when it is all said and done i believe that the most interesting part of mr. brando's life will be how he became a recluse.it seemed that mr. brando at some point in his life became sick of the world he lived in.we know of his views on the injustice's to the native american people, which is a subject that became popular in the 80's and 90's.maybe mr. brando was accepting in his mind that what does this world REALLY have to offer?when people pay millions of dollars to watch movies, while horrible things go on in the world.marlon brando was a true human being, more so than a lot of people we see on the big screen everyday.

The pain Brando had to endure in losing his daughter to suicide is as grave as a grave. I recall seeing on TV a video of Marlon asking the paparazzi to lay off his back as he was driving off to his daughter's funeral.
This man and we all know how difficult he was (calling Frank Oz Miss Piggy and refusing to take directions from anyone and playing his part the way he saw it) still continued to be a human being like everyone else.
The bottom line is that maybe Marlon Brando did not want to live anymore. Maybe he chose to take the leap into nothingness with his own free will.
His loss continues and forever be a great loss to the World of Cinema. It is equivalent to the loss of Orson Wells.

Marlon Brando was the size of a blimp and any growth may have been very hard to find. There were probably parts of Brando's body that even he could'nt see for years.

You make me sick with your comments. You are rediculing a dead man and it is unethical. Why don't you pick on those who are screwing each other up and making other people's lives miserable?
No matter how young you are I guarantee you one thing ONE DAY YOU ARE (IN GOD'S WILL) GONNA BE OLD AND YOU WILL BE FAT AND EVEN BALD.

Ease up truthseeker. A little humor goes a long way and if I can make a few people smile, so be it. It is no secret that Brando was obese. If Jay Leno joked about his size, you would'nt laugh? Give me a break.

I laughed when he was alive. I actually laughed it off thinking that if Jay Leno cannot do better than that then we are all in trouble. Though I am 200 pounds and consider myself slim due to my height I find it a little too harsh to make fun of one's looks unless they nip and tuck and fuck little children and have a zoo.

If Brando had pulmonary fibrosis, most forms of this restrictive lung disease are incurable and not much would have helped him except for steroids. It's likely that towards the end, Brando developed right heart failure from his lung disease, leading to leg edema, distended neck veins, enlarged liver, and eventual end organ failure. If he was receiving a lot of pain medicine, at least he was not suffering as much towards the end. Sounds like Playboy was fishing for a controversial article.

I agree. He was 300 lbs on a 5'10" frame. He had diabetes also apparently that was leading to blindness, hence the huge black sunglasses he always wore, he had hepatitis C from unsafe sex probably, and had lost 100 lbs in 2 months on a crazy diet. His body gave out on itself. HAd he taken CARE of himself over the years, he could have made it into his 90's but with all the abuse he put his body through, it finally gave out. The maid didn't do it.

Wait a minute...if Brando had Hep C, why is the inflammation of his liver being attributed to painkiller injections?
And what is meant by "if they had operated, maybe he'd be alive today"?
Not even Nick Rivieria would have performed a liver transplant on such a poor candidate as he.

Marlon Brando, was like the rest of us in that he was human and had thus led his own choice of lifestyle, which led to all the conditions of his death. This includes his choice of maid/mistress. His differences to the rest of us are, however, what singled him out as one of the greatest actors ever seen and as a young man, very good looking and incredibly charismatic. His decline in fortune, in paying for his sons defence, was exactly what any good father would do. helen.
