Brendan Fraser unofficially returns to The Mummy

Give the sequels a rest already, yeesh. This series of titles should have been put to death after 'The Scorpion King'. Hollywood wants to know why theatre earnings are going down? It's got to do with crap like this, as I mentioned in my comment over at the Monday Morning Poll

Come on, Brendan! Give us something new!

Tyler, do you really think the drop in ticket sales has anything to do with content of movies? It is due to the instant availability of dvd versions of new releases, and how difficult it is for some to get to theaters with family or friends. How much simpler to buy or rent the dvd and watch at home at leisure. And Brendan has enough fans who want to see him in anything he does, that his movies will have as much of an audience as any. More perhaps than, say, 'Fantastic Four'. Crap like that.

I'll let your hypothesis as to why people don't go to the movies to the other post going on at the moment.

My thoughts on whether or not new material has any bearing on audiences goes something like this:

If, say, The Mummy and its cohorts never existed, and was released next month in the theatre, I'll bet the number of people that would go to see the picture outnumber those that would go to see The Mummy III the month after as compared to a different movie starring Brenden Fraser. Jude Law can certainly atest to that.

I guess I just miss the days of fresh content with (in my opinion) great movies like "With Honors" and "In the Army Now." I'd *much* rather see a fresh character portrayed by Brenden Fraser than to see him reprise his role in yet another Mummy.

I agree with Tyler. Brendan Fraser is a good actor in the right movie. Filming the same character over and over in sequel after lousy sequel just makes him look desparate.
