Video of Cruise vs. Lauer
I posted this over at TV Squad but I didn't want to leave the Cinematical fans out (though, really, you should be reading both!): Matt Lauer's fiery interview with Tom Cruise from this morning's Today Show. It starts out all lovey-dovey, but then...

Is it me, or has Cruise gotten just a little cocky since the before ‘TomKat’ headline? Just a few comments from that interview:
“Cruise: I've never agreed with psychiatry, ever. Before I was a Scientologist I never agreed with psychiatry. And when I started studying the history of psychiatry, I understood more and more why I didn't believe in psychology.”
Is this because of all those long-failed trips to the psychiatrist failed to help, Tommy?
“Cruise: All it does is mask the problem, Matt. And if you understand the history of it, it masks the problem. That's what it does. That's all it does. You're not getting to the reason why. There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance.”
Then what in God's name is wrong with him? There has to be *some* sort of chemical imbalance for him to be behaving like this. And what, exactly, does he think 'love' is? I think it's a chemical imbalance, which to a point, it is.
He gets weirder by the day. I wonder if Katie brainwashes him at night. How do you think she kept Dawson after her?
Anyway...the only reason I'm going to see War of the Worlds is because it's a Speilberg, and my interest in the genre and story and how they changed the storyline for the politics of today's society. If it were any other movie - I'd boycott. Tom-boy is getting a little ridiculous for my tastes. I wonder if he'll make anymore decent movies after this one if producers *know* people are revolted by him.
Time to chill out, Tom. Give the Scientology thing a rest and get back to what you used to be good at: acting.

Enough already about Tom Cruise. I am so sick of hearing about his every move that I have no desire to see War Of The Worlds at all any more. The press should just move on to somebody else for their stories. I don't care if Cruise is getting married, getting divorced or is just plain in the closet still. I JUST DON"T CARE!!!!

What happened to the virgin turned pimp I wanted to be so bad as a youth? Oh Tom, just please stop talking. I mean, I do think that America is over prescribed, but, you have just gone nutters man. Kudos to Matt Lauer though, I love the look on a reporter's face when their interview subject just derails like that.

Ash,
If you, as you say, think America is overprescribed, then isn't it your responsibility to do something about it, in whatever way you can? Tom Cruise is saying, Enough! And I applaud him for that, on behalf of every person needlessly drugged out in this world. Because he's Tom Cruise, he can say that on a grander stage than you and I, that's all. I thought the perpetually smarmy Lauer got his stool pushed in and he knew it.

I think it more or less just reconfirmed Cruise has some sort of stick wedged up his rear end....

No, Matt Lauer agreed with my statement that America is on too many prescriptions. Tom Cruise did not agree with that. Tom takes issue with everything involving Psychiatry. It is the Scientology stance (ironic considering their E-Meter, used in "auditing", was developed as a psychiatry tool). I do believe their are needs for these drugs for people with serious problems. But, Tom believes that their is never a need. In this instance, Brooke Shields was right when she said that TomKat's statement was "irresponsible".

I, too, believe there is never a need for these drugs. If we are spiritual beings - as is the belief of Scientology as well as a host of other religions - then the answer to what ails us does not lie in drugs. Scientology tries to help and the results are amazing.
There is no such thing as a "chemical imbalance". There is no "depression gene", there is no "schizophrenia gene". If I gave you an eight ball of cocaine, you'd forget about your problems, too. But is that a sane solution? Does that address the real reasons for spiritual distress?
There are physiological problems which can cause mood swings (ie, lack of vitamin c, for instance, which can cause a host of mental problems) and that's why Scientologists say, go see a nutritionist and have your body tested. It's got nothing to do with becoming a Scientologist. If your physiological results are fine and there's still a problem, then Scientology auditing can and does help. Psychiatry is bogus. It's a scam, propped up by Big Pharma, which makes billions selling "cures" that merely numb people and provide zero real relief. Worse, they can cause people to flip out and either kill or harm themselves or others.
