Barrymore stops surgery
I'm not sure if you know this but MTV runs a show called I Want A Famous Face where obsessed fans get plastic surgery to look like the stars they admire. I'm really not sure who watches MTV anymore, but apparently this is what they watch. Anyway, The Mirror reports that when Drew Barrymore discovered MTV was set to film an episode about one of her fans, she tracked the lady down, and by phone informed her, "You're beautiful just as you are." The woman canceled the surgery and pulled out of the MTV series. I don't know exactly what's more sad about this story: That a fan would go to these lengths, that the fan would cancel surgery just because Barrymore says she's beautiful, or that people watch television shows about such things.

Drew Barrymore is really maturing. What with not striipping in public and not dating loser TV hosts, and even trying to make bad political docs. She is still part of that little sect of hollywood women who love to date guys in popular bands. She's gone through more rhythm guitarists than Eric Clapton, but I digress. I didn't know this show existed. If there is a hell, the producer of this show has a special reservation. Any of the people who would actually do this, deserve the shame that will follow later on. I agree though, who the hell actually watches this crap?

How about all of the above? I find the show horrifying beyond words, for all the reasons you sited in your post. It's pathetic and disturbing and deeply, deeply sad. I can't even think of anything snarky to say-- that's how sad I think it is.

I've seen other episodes of the show (watching through hand car-srash style) and it's truly horrifying. Cheers to Drew for intervening - if only Posh Spice had done the same on the episode where some poor midwestern 19-year-old went under various knives in a quest to replicate *her* sorry-ass look...

I can't believe someone would go under the knife to look just like someone else. What happened to being unique? I hate how the media has pushed this certain image. It has pressured a lot of people to eating disorders and surgery. It's terrible....
