"It's the story of a boy and his car" OR how they're going to ruin the Transformers movie
Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy
Bad news for Transformer fans: looks like they're taking a more human angle to the big screen adaptation. Screenwriter Alex Kurtzman told Scifiwire, "It's a movie franchise based on a toy line, so the first question you have to ask yourself is, 'Well, what's the movie?'" Kurtzman sat down with executive producer Steven Spielberg and asked him what the movie should be about. And he said, "'It's the story of a boy and his car. I want to bring back the old Amblin movies.' I went, 'Oh, my God, Back to the Future. Great. We're in.'"
Kurtzman says that for the movie to work, the audience must be invested in the people. "If you start Transformers with giant robots sitting in a spaceship flying through space, your movie is dead in the water. So it's all about keeping it at a human level and seeing the amazing things that are going on through the eyes of your characters."

This screenwriter is actually Uwe Boll - and we all know that Uwe doesn't know his head from his ass. Another great movie concept fucked in the ass in the worst way possible...

All these comments are premature, we are talking about Spielger here, the creator of jurassic park, war of the worlds, etc,... I trust that dreamworks will give life to transformers and it will be a hit in the box office.

You know, I was watching war of the worlds, and all I could wonder the whole time was when exactly did Spielberg become such an average director. I mean, the guy must be surrouded by sicophants too afraid to voice their opinion on his work. Lucas, anyone?
Well, I see him screwing up transformers royally if he brings the human bs to it. Why are hollywood executives so out of touch with the art to creativity?

well, its going to be a hit anyway. even if it is crap. and the reason that hollywood exec's are out of touch is because theyre trying to serve the "general public". just having the movie BE about transformers means youll get all the fans, adding the human bs side to it, means youll get some fresh fish (newcomers, moms, etc etc etc) "something for the entire family"
it shouldnt be new to anyone that hollywood is in it for the money not the fans.
too bad, could have been a kick ass movie.

I remember the Transformers as having a very human side to the drama that the robots experienced. You don't need humans, you just need the "personification" of the robots going through human-like issues. I hope they don't royally screw this up. The Transformers were one of my favorite memories as a kid. And now I watch them with my kids.
