July Madness: The final four Bond contenders?
OK, they've been teasing us for months with this "Who's going to be the next Bond" mystery. First Brosnan quit (or was he asked to leave?). Then it was Clive Owen taking over the role. Then it was Daniel Craig named as the next 007. Then Judi Dench said she thought Brosnan was coming back after all. Then we heard that a bunch of guys had auditioned for the role, including Robbie Williams, Hugh Jackman, Dominic West, and Ioan Gruffuud. I think at one point I was even mentioned as a possibility.
Now comes word that the final four are as follows: Goran Visnjic (of ER), Alex O'Lachlan, Henry Cavill, and Ewan Stewart. Take a look and tell us which of the four you'd like to see, because this is the real, real, real, honest-to-goodness final, final, final list of Bond contenders. We mean it.*

Henry Cavill is much too young to play Bond. Though he is quite pretty.
I still want James Purefoy for the part. He'd be an excellent, EXCELLENT Bond.

Fist of all, my dream Bond is still Hugh Jackman (36). The man, the charm, the charisma, the power and sense of humor to be the greatest James Bond side by side my dear Sean Connery.
But Hugh will not be Bond. He doesn’t have time to be Bond (doing a Woody Allen movie, X3 to starts next month, new company, Disney’s deal, etc), and he doesn’t need to prove himself in another action movie. But imho he would be The Bond.
About the four contenders:
Henry Cavill (22) is really too young. Bond is a man, not a boy. Come back in 10 years and he could be the guy. He has the look, at least on that picture.
Ewan Stewart (47) is too old.
Alex O'Lachlan (28), I also don’t know him and he didn’t get my attention either. Bond is magnetic, he charms everyone around him.
I like Goran Visnjic (33), although I think he has a little sadness is his eyes to be the overconfident Bond. He has my vote on that list.

Everyone on the list is so unsuited to playing James Bond that I'd crack up laughing if I wasn't worried EON may actually be considering them as the final four. Why not James Purefoy, Jeremy Northam, Rory McCann, or Clive Robertson? They'd all bring something new to the part- but not be some radical, strange departure from the first 5 Bonds that would turn a lot of die hard fans from the series. Abandoning your current demographic won't get you far, even if the actors chosen have merits when playing other roles. I mean, I might even accept Ewan Stewart as Le Chiffre if he put on some weight- but James Bond? No thank you- if EON/ Sony / MGM, etc. would like to do that- I'll stick to watching the first 19 films in the series, and adding them to my DVD & Video collection.

I think it should be Hugh Jackman or Clive Owen. I think Jackman would be the best choice, but Clive is a close second. The chpoices they are giving here are either too young or too old. Where the happy medium?
James Bond should be played by an actor in his mid to late 30's. Bond is ageless and we can't make him younger at this late date. If they wanted an older actor they should have asked Connery to come back for it.

First of all, Bond should definitely be British. And he must be mature as we know him to be. Ewan Stewart would be an excellent choice. A fine dignified actor like Stewart would fit the role perfectly..Bond, James Bond.

I think Henry Cavill would be a fabulous Bond...especially since the next movies are supposed to be pre-007...so we are in fact looking at a much younger Bond. He is fresh, sexy, intense and gives off that vibe of british sophistication... Plus he can act! Cavill's got my vote!

Henry Cavill as James Bond would be a dream come true. If the Bond films are actually going to be pre-Bond then he's parfait. If the films are just post-Brosnan then he is much too young. Bond needs to be that sexy older male, not the sexy young male Mr. Cavill happens to be.

I am a huge fan of James Purefoy's work. And would love to see more of him state side. However, I think that Clive Owen would be a great James Bond. He is the right age and carries himself well. He also has a broodish look that I think a good Bond needs. Sean Connery, who will remain my favorite, always had a slight nasty streak about him. Bond does not need to be too young or too perfect.
