Spiderman 3 villain announced

Pre-Sideways, I doubt anyone would have referred to Thomas Haden Church as "chameleonic" ... he was, after all, little more than The Guy From Wings. But Development-Hell has learned that the villain that Church has been hired to play in the next installmemt of the Spiderman franchise is not Venom nor Sandman, as has been rumored, but The Chameleon, who "will use his powers of performance and identify theft to bridge a gap between MJ and Peter Parker in this film." The report suggests that an official announcement won't be made until just after Thanksgiving, at which point we can expect the release of an animated Chameleon DVD.

This is a crock of sh*t. Thomas Haden Church would be totally miscast in this role.
Topher Grace has also been signed on as a villain for this movie, and therefore it is much more likely that he is playing the part of the Chameleon.

This is a travisty, a sham, a mockery, its a friggin Travishamockery!!!
If they dont put Venom as the bad guy of all bad guys, the Spidey writers are officially brain dead. There are certain bad guys which stand out as "bad" Predator, Alien, Majin Boo, and Venom. If they dont use Venom they waste one of the best villians ever written. To my knowledge they have only signed to do 3. Pretty CG isn't going to save this movie.

But is not the story-arc of Venom far too long and involved to be one movie, especially now?
They have already introduced multiple potential villains within the first two- from the next of the Goblin villains to the Lizard. These are obviously ripe for use and containable within one film. In fact, I could probably name a dozen villains (Lizard, Scorpion, Rhino, Vulture- those are just some of the animals, then you've got Mysterio, Electro, Sandman, Hydro... and on and on) that would fit better in one movie than Venom.
Venom involves Spidey getting a new costume from space... (SPACE!) and then wearing it for a while, and then ditching it, and then watching it attach to another man (who needs to be introduces and developed), and then fighting that other man, etc., etc., etc.
It took FOUR YEARS of comics just to get them into a fight!
Were Venom to be involved in the franchise, it would take two movies, presumably 4 & 5, filmed back to back and shown consecutive summers. During the 4th film Spidey adopts the blue-black alien costume (Enter Fantastic Four cameos to show how it comes in from space) while fighting off another villain (like Electro or Mysterio or Hydro or WHOEVER) and also crossing Venom's future host- it'd be a pretty good semi-cliffhanger ending, as everyone would know Venom was coming, but not the exact plot.
In 5, Venom is formed with his new host Eddie Brock, Spidey goes back to the red and blue, and they have it out. Then everyone will be satisfied and Tobey can have his life back, the end.
