Michael Moore: "I am sooooo scary!"
Filed under: Documentary, Celebrities and Controversy
Michael Moore is going around bragging that his next documentary, Sicko -- for which he has yet to shoot a frame of film (or has he joined the George Lucas revolution?) -- already has American HMOs "freaked out". He claims the health care companies are scared to the point where they're actually crafting company policy in the event that Moore approach their employees with his ever-invasive camera. "At this point, we haven't shot anything yet and they're totally discombobulated," Moore boasted from the Traverse City Film Festival, which he helped organize, and which is screening mostly-classic, all non-political films. Not that he has any shame over being a political

There are few people in the media that I dispise as much as this guy. He's a troublemaker and worse than that he's ill informed and inflammatory. If I could make his head explode using just the power of my mind...I would.

Michael Moore is not boasting. I read some articles MONTHS ago saying the same thing. And it wasn't coming from Moore's mouth. It was coming from the HMOs.
You should do your research before calling the guy out.

Wait a second. You're calling a Guardian article that uses the LA Times as its source "research?"

I didn't say he was *lieing* - I said he was bragging. And he is. He LOVES this. He loves the idea that he can scare the establishment into performing change.

Yeah, he's a REAL troublemaker, what with his film camera and his commentary. He's really destroying this country with his "inflammatory" comments. Why don't you keep your head buried in the dirt, your assinine comments are stinking up the place. I understand you may disagree with what he has to say but at least back up your comments with something more than ignorance. At least he stands up for what he believes in; he's not a bigot, he doesn't incite violence, and he genuinely cares about people. Go ahead and make fun of his weight or his appearance for the rest of you, your comments speak volumes about the type of person you are. I just think the villification of Michael Moore is totally unwarranted.

Yeah. you said he was bragging.
I'm actually pretty pumped that he can get a reaction out of American corporations, the entities that don't shake in their boots for anything, including the United States Supreme Court.
Wouldn't you brag?

TO be fair, theres really no getting around the fact that he has consistantly used deceptive and misleading film making strategies, and seemingly doesnt really care that the facts that he uses are usually all wrong or taken out of context. All the same, if you take him for what he truly is, ENTERTAINMENT, just like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, or Bill O'Reilly, then I dont really see anything wrong with him.
Despite being pretty conservative/libertarian I really thought that Bowling for Columbine was a good movie. It had lots of great interviews, and it got people thinking about gun violence in america, while pointing out that its not necessarily the volume of guns here but something else. Roger and Me and Fahrenheit 9/11 were pretty shitty though. The former chiefly consisting of harassment of some poor guys who just wanted to get to work and then to their families over a shitty town thats done. The latter just took the misinformation too far. LOL, all that crap about "Carlyle Group" when half the people watching the movie were probably patronizing a theatre owned by Carlyle.
And now he goes after drug companies and HMOs... while there are definately problems with our system mostly stemming from the way our laws have the companies structured, if Moore goes back to his "corporate greed" themes it will be a bad choice.

Michael Moore is harmful to this country and in earlier times, he would have been hung as a traitor. Let him make his anti-American movies but keep him out of the Academy Awards, both as a presenter and nominee. France could use another idiot to canonize as an idol. Please take Moore and keep him. Perhaps he will bring down the French and do something right for a change.

Mick Du Russel, are you saying that he would have been rightfully hung?
There's no treachery involved. He's not giving enemies any secrets. He actively says he loves America.
HE DISAGREES WITH SOME THINGS OUR GOVERNMENT DOES. IN a democracy, we're allowed and encouraged to do so.
THAT'S THE FREEDOM THAT YOU'RE SUPPOSEDLY BRINGING IRAQ.
And please just quit it with the France garbage. It makes you look like an idiot.

Yes. He does. And frankly, that's wonderful. It's good that you can effect change through film-making.

Anybody that agrees with Michael Moore needs to get their head out of the clouds and do a little research to see what the truth really is instead of letting some crazy man do it all for you. You are uninformed and letting someone tell you what to think. To me, that is an irresponsible american and you all belong together. Bother to find out the "real" truths, then cast judgment. I have, and I know the "truths" are NOT with Michael Moore. Ever hear of propaganda? Well, he's the King of it.

Since this is a film news site and NOT a political news site, I am going to stay away from the liberal jargon. Moore's 9/11 film brought a lot of people into a theatre to see a doc, that hasn't been seen since, well, his last film. But, he has the ability to give you at least something to think about in an interesting and satirical way. I for one am curious to see how he intends to make information on HMO's and other health care business practices in any way entertaining to watch. I don't think he can pull this off. And on the actual article, it is pretty typical to have mass memos go out to employees telling them not to talk to him. This is essentially the entire plot of Roger and Me. But, the same would go for any of us trying to get the information and answers we desire from these companies.

America was founded on the basic principles of democracy. The people are supposed to have a voice, but in the present time the common man can't be heard. You need people like Michael Moore who has the ability to scare the big boys out there. Its people like him that have corporations and governments thinking twice before lying to the public.
And whoever is saying that he is a traitor is ridiculous. Like i said before, we live in a democracy and about half the people in the America are against the war. At least there are people like him who are trying to do something about it. Whichever side your on, you have to respect that.

Michael Moore cornered the market of documentaries for the dumb. I've seen most of what he made and none of it gave me more information on the subject he presented. Yes it was entertaining but as documentary fan it doesn't go into the subject instead it's a 2 hour long news cast.
Watch Frontline or Nova if you want to know about HMOs, see this doc. if you want to a Jon Stewart type interview with some plastic-smile PR chick.
If you have to Google HMO to know what the leeters stand for this movie will be for you.

He presents his skewed opinions and slanted views as fact by taking small facts out of context and bending them to his will.
I don't care who you support, Bush, Clinton (the Bill or Hillary flavor) or Gumby for pres. Presenting opinions as fact is wrong, and before all you Michael Moore enthusiast call me a Bush lover or a right wing whatever, I'll tell Rush Limbaugh the same thing to his face.
The majority of the public in this country are under informed and overly excitable, telling them anything and representing it is a cold hard fact when it is not is risky, I don't care how noble you think your cause is.
That having been said, I do agree that there is something wrong with insurance companies and that it should be brought to light. I just hope that he represents facts as fact and opinions as such.
There is enough wrong with HMOs that he should have to bend the truth at all to get his point across.
By the way David, you hung a picture, you hanged a person.
Just F.Y.I.
