When stupid is as stupid does

Dukes of HazzardThe Dukes of Hazzard is expected to bluster its way to the top of the box office its opening weekend, in spite of blisteringly bad reviews from pretty much all sides. How bad? Well, at the moment, its Rotten Tomatoes rating is a dismal 18 - that's 18 on a scale of 1-100, kids - a mere 6 points ahead of the equally lambasted Stealth

To give you even more perspective, The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl, which is on my personal top ten list of the worst movies in the entire history of filmdom, has a Rotten Tomato rating of 21. And yet, The Dukes of Hazzard, because it stars Jessica Simpson's breasts and Johnny Knoxville, whom I hear some people actually find attractive, is expected to rake in $25-30 million its opening weekend. Wow.

And then people wonder why Hollywood keeps churning out the crapola. As long as people are willing to shell out ten bucks a ticket to watch a really bad movie, just so they can see a questionably cool car and Jessica Simpson's butt in super-short cutoffs, Hollywood will keep making it. If stupid is what sells, you can bet Hollywood will keep giving moviegoers want they want, and then some. Can you say yeeeeeee-haaaaaaw? I knew you could.
