First Look at Goblet of Fire
I think the internet might suffer an overload: the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire trailer is online! As rumored, it looks like director Mike Newell has brought a greater darkness to the series. Additionally, the effects look like they might be (hopefully) slightly less cheesy than they were in the previous films. Also, this just in: Daniel Radcliffe is older. I could tell by his trendy shaggy hair.I had to laugh while watching the trailer because, as someone who has neither read the books, nor sat through a whole Potter film, I had no idea what was going on. Harry was under water, there were some Klan-looking guys, a big stadium, talk of eternity, and a cute Asian girl (which totally threw me off because my impression had been that the Harry Potter world was pretty much all white, all the time). As far as I could tell, it seems as if Harry gets involved in some sort of Wizard Running Man competition. While this sounds fairly promising, I feel like I would have heard if that was actually the plot. Am I close at all? [via The Movie Blog]

LOL. Funny seeing your comments from the perspective of a non-reader (of the HP books). That pretty much sums up the story... it's mainly about the Wizard Running Man competition :-)

Movie goer or not you can't knock a movie's preview (from a book none-the-less) if you don't know the story behind it. God forbid a white guy be interested in an asian woman or why harry potter is older in his fourth year at hogwarts than he was in his third year at hogwarts.

LOL, you aren't even close! Just to get it straight: Yes, it's weird; Daniel Radcliffe IS older than he was in the last movie, yes the effects are better, yes, it's darker (did ya see the PG-13 rating?), those 'Klan-looking guys' are the Death Eaters (the bad guys), and no, they did not look like that in the book (they just wore plain old hoods), the Harry Potter world is NOT NOT NOT all white, it is quite the contrary and VERY diverse (in the books and the films), and the entire plot is NOT just the competition, but the film seems to be CENTERING around that. MY ADVICE: READ THE BOOKS!!!!! Then see the first 3 films, and THEN see the 4th film. PLEASE set a good example for other newbies. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm trying to inform you. Good luck!

How can you write for cinematical but not have seen any of the Harry Potter movies? Your credibility and the credibility of this site just fell quite a bit.

I have to agree with Finished.Law.School. You should at least sit through the movies (first three)before going any further.

Aren't you witty? Don't good writers usually research a subject before they comment on it?

Jasons comment is funny, how sarcastic do you want to be. I am sure the author is trying his/her best.

lol you should really read the book but you got it down since the movie showed like the main plot being the Triwizard tournement. I'm glad to hear you think the "Asian" girl was cute. Her name is Katie Leung and many didn't like her at all playing Cho but she's good enough and hearing you say something positive it means she did a great job being her character. I like the preview even if you weren't a Harry Potter fan.

Martha, you've "neither read the books, nor sat through a whole Potter film". Does that mean you disliked one of the films so much that you walked out of the theater, or were you just flipping channels and paused between commercials? Did you mean to show utter distain or just disinterest?
Please remember, Harry Potter was written for children. The HP books have generated a bigger interest in reading for children around the world. It has and is generating thought provoking discussion amoungst children and adults everywhere. As an adult, you are not expected to read a children's book, but a s a movie reviewer I'd expect you to see the movies if you are going to comment on them. Please. And yes, I love everything Potter.
Why did you choose this subject? Are you planning on seeing the film? Any of them?

Considering that you've never finished reading or watching anything to do with Harry Potter, this review subject wasn't the greatest idea. It will be funny mostly for the people like you, who don't know anything about HP. For those who do - that was pitiful.
Just for the record Melissa, HP was NOT written for children. JK Rowling wrote it for herself, which I believe she has said in multiple interviews.

Martha, you really should read the book or atleast watch the film before judging it. as you said it yourself your "someone who has neither read the books, nor sat through a whole Potter film" so how would you know that the special effects were "cheasy"? and as for dan getting older in the 4th film whats so bad about that everyone grows its only natural and as dan is growing so is harry so thats really not a problem. If you had read the books you would understand what was going on in the trailer as well. and this just in: hp books are bestsellers so try reading them sometime you'll like them.

ok, first of all you should atleast read the books or see the first three movies before making any comments about the fourth one. and your not doing the jk rowling justice because as you might have heard (every hp fan has) that the hp books are bestsellers and the movies are based on the books so theirfore the movies are appealing to hp readers and as far as the trailer goes the whole point isn't the triwizard tounament (if you read the book you would know that) although it is one of the main things. you have to read the book before judging the trailer or judge the trailer after watching the actual film so you "understand whats going on".

For the record, Harry Potter is listed as a children's book, regardless of Ms. Rowling's personal motivation for writing them.

Dear All,
you guys and gals need to take a breather..the person never said that she was reviewing movie 1, 2, or 3, or book 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. I am becomming a hp fan, however, it is the people like you who do damage to the work of jkr. This is a fantasy world, and if I got it right, she was laughing at themself for not understanding what is going on...not at the plot (or maybe they were laughing at the trailer), who knows...who cares...if she is going to rate the movie...she does not need to read the book, nor does she need to see the other 3 movies...she is reviewing this movie, not the book. If she is going to contrast everything from the books to the movies, then yes...read and see all...yet if just the movie, then what better person to do it...someone who isn't submerged in the HP world, nor one totally against it...a meek and mild mannered reporter, one who is not afraid to face either the fans of HP; (if it is a negative review) or to face the enemies of hp if it is a positive....I say kudos! hope you enjoy the books, movies, websites, your adventure to the world of harry potter awaits....
well that is all i will say....
Thanks for listening...

Okay I have no idea how I got to this website but somehow I did so I'll add my comment. READ all the Harry Potter books! They are so good! I really suggest not watching any of the Harry Potter movies until after you've read them all because watching the movie first in these type of things tends to mess up the characters for you as your reading. (I've seen the first Harry Potter movie and I dont want to see any more because they totally messed up how I pictured everyone.) Oh and for you people who have read the latest one. (6th) Go to this website dumbledoreisnotdead.com, it has very thought out and possible ways that Dumbledore might not have actually died. Uses clues from the other books and stuff check it out! Well I think this is a movie website and Im talking about books so I'd better stop.
