It's Sophia Loren day on Turner Classic Movies, so it seems like as good an occasion as any to introduce you to Bikini Science. Bikini Science explains the history and function of every undergarment worn on its pages. "A very small bikini silhouette for 1963," reads the commentary on this image. "Sophia Loren shows how the widely spaced shoulder strap coupled with underwire foundation works the same underwear or a bikini." Click on interlinks, like push-up bra, and you get a detailed summary on the invention, popularization and engineering of said garment.
