Weinsteins And Campbell Talk Scream 4
Filed under: RumorMonger, DIY/Filmmaking, Weinstein Brothers
According to IconsofFright, Neve Campbell and The Weinsteins have "discussed" plans for the actress to reprise her role as Sydney Prescott for an additional Scream sequel. During a recent panel discussion Wes Craven divulged the news himself but made sure to note that this is "the first he's heard about it." Does that mean old Wes wants absolutely nothing to do with the project? Hmmm. For Campbell this seems like the best way to catapult her back into the spotlight, aside from a Party of Five reunion special – although I can't imagine who would be chasing her this time. Something tells me Sydney would be all grown up by now, possibly with a family of her own. Oohhh -- obsessive revenge-seeking husband? Eh. Spoiled teenage daughter who's pissed she didn't get a car for her high school graduation? Yes! How do you feel about a possible sequel? Is there any chance of spinning some originality around this one?

This really irks me. I do specifically recall the Weinsteins and Craven saying back in the day something along the lines like WE SWEAR THESE AREN'T SEQUELS FOR SEQUELS SAKE. THESE ARE ALL PART OF A PLANNED TRILOGY, AND AFTER THREE, THERE WILL BE NO MORE.
Well, for one I didn't believe 2 and 3 were ever part of a planned trilogy. I think they used that angle after the first was a success. And now, they're sort of proving they can't be trusted by going against the very thing they said they wouldn't do. It makes me sick. I love bad slashers as well as the next horror nut, but this is just stupid.
And if any of you think this is a good idea, then I better never hear you griping about the tripe Hollywood gives you these days.

The third movie devoted a lot of time and energy to emphasizing the series as a trilogy, so the only way a 4th movie makes sense is if we pretend the third movie never happened, which isn't a bad idea, so I'm for it.

This just SCREAMS, "Bad idea!" I'm really hoping it's not going to happen... It'll destroy the whole franchise!
