Jason Statham Sells Crank
Filed under: Casting, Lionsgate Films, DIY/Filmmaking, Newsstand
Lions Gate Films and Lakeshore Entertainment are banking on Jason Statham to transport mucho-millions after signing him to play lead action-dude in the upcoming film Crank. Pic will start shooting late next month and is said to revolve around a hit-man who, after being poisoned, goes on a one-day rampage across Los Angeles in an attempt to, well, you figure out the rest. First timers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor will direct off their own original script. Wow, an original script? What's that? I'm guessing the boys pitched this as Escape From L.A. meets Collateral, and if they didn't, then that's how I'm pitching it to you. Although we're all dying to know, there's still no word on his character's sexual preference in the movie. What say you Jason?

Sounds like a fun movie. Hopefully it stays true to the basic description and includes ton of violence.

How about "D.O.A." http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0094933/ meets "Collateral" instead?

Kjeld's right but he didn't go back far enough. "D.O.A." was already a retread by 1988. The original had Edmund O'Brien in 1950. (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0042369/) The writing is a bit dated and jerky but if O'Brien had been given the kind of firepower Stratham will get, the outcome would have been pretty much the same.
