Zellweger? Wishy-Washy? Never!

This is the best news I've heard in a while: Renee Zellweger – whose success I find absolutely baffling, an affront to everything that Classical Hollywood can teach us about the mechanics of stardom – in typical wishy-washy fashion, is hemming and hawing over taking the role of Janis Joplin in the upcoming biopic, Piece of My Heart. Zellweger claims she hasn't signed on to the role, and won't unless it "feels right". "There is a need to be careful with the movie," Zellweger said, "to make sure it does not
become a cliche. Because that would be blasphemy. We have to make sure
that the people who knew her are not disappointed." Well, I can't say I "knew" Janis Joplin, but I would sure as hell be disappointed to see Zellweger take this part. For one thing, by the time the project makes it through pre-production, lil' Renee will be a good ten years older than Joplin was when she died (at age 27 of a heroin overdose). And I think it goes without saying that Zellweger, who has proven little more than that she's willing to gain weight for a role, will have to do a little more than that to pull this one off. For one thing, the barely-there vocal style she employed in Chicago would be totally insufficient here. I say they go with a relative unknown – any ideas?

Please..... let someone else get this role. Zellweger is so overrated. She is way too mousy to pull this one off.

I think Joss Stone could pull it off really well. Got the voice and the age. All she needs is some "Monster" facial makeup a la Charlize Theron to make her a little less appealing.

I had heard that Pink, when she was popular, was up for the role.. I think she could sing it -- maybe act it -- but anyone but zellwegger please.

Amit, I was thinking Joss Stone, too. She's a *little* young, but I think she could pull it off.

Actually, Renee has done more than gaining weight for a role. It requires a lot of work to convincingly play a British culture icon like Bridget Jones, and sing and dance like a pro in Chicago. Your ignorance is absolutely baffling, but your lack of success as a movie critic or anything else is absolutely understandable.
