Van Gogh (Not That One) Films to be Remade
Filed under: Foreign Language, Deals, Celebrities and Controversy, Cinematical Indie
When Dutch director Theo van Gogh was murdered
last year for a controversial film critical of Islam (his killer has
been sentenced to life in prison), he exploded into the world's consciousness.
In a move that either callously takes advantage of van Gogh's tragic
fame or hopes to bring his work to a wider audience, a pair of
production companies are in the process of remaking three of his films
in English. American company Ironworks Productions is cooperating with
Dutch group Column Productions on the project, and already on board to
direct are Steve Buscemi, Stanley Tucci, and Bob Balaban. For those of you familiar with van Gogh, the three films undergoing Americanization are 06, Blind Date, and Interview; all three will be shot on digital video in New York starting in 2006.
