New Orleans Police Chief Begging Dennis Quaid for work
Filed under: Music & Musicals, Casting, DIY/Filmmaking, Politics
Before Hurricane Katrina hit, Dennis Quaid had been planning to shoot his directorial debut – a musical called Shame on You, starring Katie Holmes – in New Orleans. Whilst production has (obviously) been delayed, Quaid is still trying his damnedest to bring Shame to the now-devastated city. Quaid has apparently been working closely with New Orleans Police Superintendent Eddie Compass on relief efforts, in what appears to be if not a purely benevolent, than a somewhat innocuous attempt to grease his production's path back into the city. Last week Quaid was quoted as asking Compass, "Can we get in here by January 1st? If there's any way we can do it
here, I want to do it here. This is the place that really needs it." But here's the catch: Compass is not a man easily bought. The Superintendent wants a role in the musical. "Get me in there, brother," he reportedly begged Quaid. "Even if it's as an extra."

Just checked in on the site and what do I find - yet another weird, pointless, and slightly mean article by Karina Longworth. In one paragraph she manages to 1.) Randomly insult Dennis Quaid and the Police Superintendant of New Orleans, 2.) Belittle the post-Katrina situation, and 3.) say nothing important at all. Number 3 seems to be an all to common theme. I'm not checking back on this site.

I read your comment on Dennis Quaid and you are way off base. I have met him on a few occasions. He is one of the most down to earth people I know, and whatever he does is from the heart. There is no agenda. Dennis filmed two movies in New Orleans, The Big Easy and Undercover Blues. In addition, he and his band the Sharks have played countless times in clubs there. Most importantly, he has been involved with The International Hospital for Children based in New Orleans, since 1987. This charity transports children from Central America with life threatening illnesses to the U.S. for operations they could normally not afford. Dennis himself has gone down there to personally bring these children back. He also built clinics while down there. In addition, he manned the phones on the telethon for hurricane aid, as well as announced many of the groups on the MTV benefit. He also performed in Los Angeles with the Sharks in another benefit. This was done before he actually went to New Orleans, and he went there to help the workers at the International Hospital for Children. If you read the article, you would note that he did scout other locations, but was willing to DELAY the start of the movie so he could film in New Orleans. The police commissioner asking for a part in the movie was a request, NOT a bribe. In fact, according to other articles, Dennis meeting the police commissioner was impromptu and his comments were tongue in cheek. However, Dennis would give the man a part in the movie even if he didn't ask because that is just the kind of person he is. Dennis truly loves the city of New Orleans, and is even part Cajun, on his mother's side. I agree with the poster that this site is not worth a second look.

This is bullshit...100%. Dennis has been a supporter of New Orleans Children for years. Check your facts, bit========ch.
