Dunst Done With Spiderman?

All you haters out there can begin the rejoicing - well, starting to plan your parties, at least. Kirsten Dunst originally signed
for three Spider-Man movies, and that's all she's going to be doing. So
you'll have to deal with her Mary Jane in Spider-Man 3,
but if the franchise lives on after that (which it certainly seems like it will,
given the success of installments one and two), it'll probably have to
be either without Mary Jane, or with one of those soap opera-style "The
role of Mary Jane is now played by..." on-screen announcements. Dunst
isn't ruling out a return, but since her conditions include both the
return of Sam Raimi and "an exorbitant amount of money," it seems
unlikely they'll be met.Me, I love Dunst - she's so adorable I can hardly stand it - so the fact that so many people have this seething hatred for her (at least in the Spider-Man flicks) always surprises me. My understanding is that people think she's badly cast; I have no familiarity with the comic books at all and would love to have some idea of who would have been better. Is it her look that's the problem, or just her in general?

Mary Jane in the Comics is a fashion model/actress. She is at the top of her career and thought to be on of the most beautiful people on the planet. If she was real she would look like Jessica Simpson, Carmen Electra or a white Halle Berry. Your jaw is suppose to drop to the floor when you see her. And that adds to the story cause everybody wonders how the nerd got the BEST LOOKING girl on the planet.

she wasn't a hugely successful actress/model when she was first introduced, though.

Yeah, uh, MJ was a STRUGGLING actress and model for most of the time at the beginning, which "the most beautiful girl in the world" would probably not be.
Also, the drawn MJ wasn't, you know, all that hot-looking. And, yes, comic-book chicks can be drawn hot by giving them the same features that hot girls have in real life. The comic MJ was very pretty, but she wasn't, you know, making every dude who saw her keel over.

I must have missed the memo. Why do we hate Kirsten Dunst?

I don't like Dunst, period. In anything. More specifically, I sure think she's miscast in the Spider-Man movies. I really like Orlando Bloom, but probably won't see Elizabethtown because he's opposite Dunst. I mean, I really don't care for her. She's yucky - not adorable in any way; not in any movie.

Now, how much longer do we have to put up with Tobey Maguire?

Finally! Now I can open my eyes the next time I go to a Spidey flick. Speaking of Spider-Man, I was surprised by Toby McGuire's performance, he really pulled off the part fantastically (to my surprise). Sadly, the whole Kirsten Dunst thing hasn't worked since Lestat sucked the life out of Tom Cruise's career. I have but a few words for Kirsten, "Please wear a bra." In the next Spider-Man movie, I pray they don't do another upside down kiss. GAG me!
The only part Kirsten played half-way decent was as the tap dancing beauty contenstant in Drop Dead Gorgeous, but her accent stunk as badly as Winona Rider's so-called British accent. Aside from my obviously negative critique, I loved Kirsten in Punked! :-)
