DVDs to Your iPod
Peeing with glee about the new video iPod? Totally stoked about being able to watch That's So Raven
on the subway? Oh yeah, me too. But I wish I could somehow put movies
on the thing, and no longer need to steal my brother's
portable DVD player every time I'm going on a long flight. And what do
you know? As if by magic, my dreams (well, one of them) have been
fulfilled: Mark Pilgrim
published a detail guide to ripping DVDs for download into your iPod using a program called Handbrake.
While the portable DVD player people will surely not be happy about
this, for tech savvy, movie-loving consumers very little could be
cooler. [I've not tried this myself, but Pilgrim's pretty reliable. Let us know if you have any problems.]

Don't get your hopes up. Battery life for video playback on the new iPod is two hours. Enough for one movie, maybe, but that leaves you with no time for music. Stick with the portable DVD player for your plane trips.

BTW, you don’t even need MacTheRipper to encode DVD’s from your iPod. The latestest version of HandBreak can do it right from the app (see figure 5 on the guide). You can even select specific titles and chapters that you want.
