Imelda Staunton is Ms. Dolores Umbridge

Two weeks ago, rumors began circulating that accomplished BBC actress Imelda Staunton will join the Harry Potter pantheon as Ms. Dolores Umbridge. Staunton confirmed this rumor herself during a recent appearance on ITV’s This Morning television program.
Fans of the Potter book series should be well pleased, as Staunton easily has the ability to be convincingly stern, creepy, and despicable. Umbridge is perhaps the most hated character in the Potter universe, and much of the fifth novel focuses around her dictatorial control of Hogwarts, the magical school that Potter attends (in case you just emerged from your 1950s bomb shelter and hadn’t yet heard of Hogwarts). As Dolores Umbridge, Staunton should feature prominently in The Order of the Phoenix movie.

I have never seen any of her films, but she sounds perfect for this role! I'm so glad to hear that Umbridge has definitely been casted though. I've been waiting to find out who'd be playing Umbridge. I hate her character even more than Snape!

As much as I'd love to hate Staunton in the role, I'd rather hate Geraldine McEwan as Umbridge. Anyone who saw her beastly Sister Bridget in "The Magdalene Sisters" knows she's quite up to it.

A perfect casting - I saw the photo above and that it almost exactly how I pictured Umbridge. Forget the greying black hair.

As of December 5, Warner Brothers has not confirmed this actress as having landed the part. So I guess it's still rumor. If she IS the choice, I'm sure she'll do a great job at making us really despise Umbridge!!
