More alarming details about Rocky 6
Thanks to a careful examination of some recent casting calls, JoBlo has
compiled a detailed list of the supporting characters in Rocky Balboa
(the sometime "Hey, We're Not Hollywood Anymore" name for Rocky VI). After perusing the list, I'm sorry to report that there is
nothing here to change the minds of those who fear the movie will be an
embarrassing, cliche-filled disaster. Among those needing to be cast are:
- A girlfriend for Rocky. Well, of course. It's not like he's going to just sit around and think about Adrian all the time. I'm sure an appropriate mourning period has passed.
- The girlfriend's son. Wanna bet that he's troubled?
- A worldly, "grizzled" trainer. Is there any other kind?
- A posse of "African-American homeboys." For the love of God, please let this stereotype belong to my man The Line. If Rocky has himself a hip posse all hope really is lost.

Rocky DOES NOT have a girlfriend in the latest film. There is a girl in the script - she's little Marie from the first film, now in her 40's - and she does have a son. There is no romantic storyline - Rocky finds out that little Marie is down and out and he helps her by giving her and her son jobs in his restaurant. The Posse you speak of does not belong to Rocky. They are with Mason, the African American fighter in the story. (When was the last time you saw a boxer without an entourage?) If you're going to criticize, at least get your facts straight.

I find it completely hilarious that studios actually let Stallone write this and THEN gave it the green light... Yet they wonder why people are not going to the movies... Idiots.

Stallone is an Oscar-nominated screenwriter, don't forget.

I did not know that. What was he nominated for? Or are you being humurous?
I would like to know whether those who nominated him regret it.

This is the type of article that shows you how reporters who don't know the facts about the script are already writing off the film. Please read the script excerpts that appeared on Sly Magazine before reporting as fact "alarming details" that are false.
