Radcliffe: Kill Harry!
Filed under: Drama, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, RumorMonger, Fandom, Newsstand
Daniel Radcliffe is really not working on pleasing his fans right now.
In the middle of promotions for the forthcoming Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the boy
is being just a mite too honest about his feelings towards his
character, and is most likely throwing message boards into a tizzy.
Just days after casually mentioning that he might not want to play
Harry Potter forever, the boy has announced that he thinks JK Rowling
ought to kill off his character in the final book in her massive,
zillion dollar series. It's not a token, tear-jerking death, though. Oh
no. Radcliffe wants Harry to sacrifice himself for the forces of good -
if he was writing the series, he'd have Harry have "to die in order for
evil Voldemort to die." Said the young wizard, "I wouldn't want it to
be sentimental. I don't like sentimental ends to books or films. I think that would undermine the darkness the rest of the books have." Dang, Dan. While it sounds good to me, but I wonder what fans of the series would think if it ended that way. Would it make the whole thing not worth it if the hero died?

See now, I like sentimental endings, but even so Rowling won't end the series that way. But she won't end it Dan's way either. Why? It's her freaking book series and she can do whatever she likes. Personally, I think Harry will live, live on with the scars of his past and the knowledge that for some reason he was worth saving. Kind of like Frodo, come to think of it.

Actually, I think it's not entirely a bad idea, if she wants to take the story off the hero-arc track and make it a messianic track instead. Harry sacrifices himself to kill Voldemort, but then comes back through the power of Ginny's love for him (isn't one of the key messages of the series that the power of love is greater than any magic, and that's what actually kept Harry from being killed by Voldemort anyhow?)
That might be too sentimental and ending for Daniel Radcliffe anyhow, though.

Well, no offense to Dan, but I could care less about the movies. The only thing that they're doing is delaying the releases for each book. Personally, I would like to see the story continue long after the seventh, and there is no need to continue with the movies.

I completely agree w/ Sarah. The movies just hold you over til' the next book. I presonally hope she continues the series afrter the seventh book also.

I thought the story line mentioned something about their lives being connected to a degree where if one is injured the other can feel it therefore implying that for one to die the other would need to die?

I believe what everyone is so hyped-up about is an interview Dan gave to one of the websites in which he made an observation that "something terrible" might happen to Harry. Well, since he doesn't have any more clue than the rest of us, I think he's entitled to his own opinion. "Neither can live while the other survives"...kinda says it all, doesn't it?

I have always envisioned that the Harry Potter series would end in death and destruction. Just what kind of death is up to the imagination. That will be a surprise, or maybe a horcrux?

I think it's a bad idea. There's no reason why Evil should win over good. What's the point of killing him for if they are both going to die??? If she wants to end the series that's the stupidest reason to do so!Make him a Hero! Get rid of the bad guy, he's a menace!!!

I doubt if JK is going to kill Harry, she'll probably get him to kill Voldemort but a pay a price to do so. Then, just like the the end of LOTR, Harry will "go to the West". Or he might get together with Ginny, but I don't think Harry will die. A lot of other characters are probably going to die in book 7, both good and evil.

Well I don't really mind how the series is ended. Actually i don't really want the books to end but hey! The books have been so exciting, entertaining, thrilling and moving so far, why is everyone stressing that JK will stuff it up now? Has she ever given us reason to think she will destroy the story and its morals? I'm sure, with her creativity and woman's intuition, that she will create an ending that is satisfying and yet still leaves some questions that only our imagainations will answer! PS I love the movies too but I agree the books are better, the movies leave so much out!!!!

After seven books...please don't have Harry die! He needs to be with Ginny, and Ron & Hermione should be together......with a happy ending. I don't want to see Harry end up like Frodo and end up neither dead or alive.......just heading into the West (or behind the veil).

i do hope harry will die...it's not like i don't like him. I LOVE HARRY POTTER. it's just, the book will have more meaning, it'll go deeper if it shows Harry sacrificing his life for a good cause and to defeat Voldermort. oh, and i read in a book (an actual book that was published and has CORRECT facts) that J.K Rowling wrote an afterword on what happens to the characters after the seventh book. but she doesn't say who's going to live through the seventh book. so she might actually publish something that tells what happens to the the characters (like Ron or Hermione) when they get older.
...isn't that cool?
