Cinematical Costume Contest: You pick the winner!
Wow! Our first-ever Cinematical Halloween Costume Contest was such a smashing successs, we can't decide on a winner! So here's what we've decided to do: we've narrowed down the field of competitors down to five finalists. The pictures of the finalists are below the fold. You have until 11:59PM Thursday, November 3 to leave your vote in the comments. ONE -- that's ONE and only one -- vote per person. Spam votes/multiple votes from the same email address or IP will be tossed in the virtual circular file. Emailing all your friends and relatives to get them to vote for you = legal; using those 989 gmail invites to create fake addresses and vote for yourself repeatedly = NOT legal, and, well, lame to boot. So don't do it.
The costume entrant who receives the most (legit) votes will win our fabulous prize: The Val Lewton Horror Collection on DVD, not to mention bragging rights with friends and coworkers and highly coveted status as Cinematical Costume Contest Winner for 2005. Go look at our Fab Five Finalists, and get those votes in!
Here are our Fab Five Finalists, in no particular order:
Entry #1: Edward Scissorhands - This fabulous costume is homemade and replicates Edward Scissorhands down to the last buckle! Now that's dedication.

Entry #2 - Napoleon Dynamite - This contestant really went the extra mile with his costume - the perm is REAL, and he got it for this contest. Why? Because he wanted to -- gosh!

Entry #3 - Star Wars Family - If the family that plays together, stays together, this family of Star Wars characters is sure to live long and prosper. Oh, wait, that's Star Trek... well, may the force be with them, then.

Entry #4 - General Grievous - Speaking of Star Wars, this General Grievous costume is really a knockout, too! Wonder if it comes complete with raspy voice and wheezing cough?

Entry #5 - Jack and Sally (The Nightmare Before Christmas) - One of two Tim Burton-related couple entries we received, this Nightmare Before Christmas tribute would make Mr. and Mrs. Helena Bonham Carter proud.

There you have them, folks -- your Fab Five Costume Contest Finalists! Thanks to everyone who entered; we had so many truly wonderful and inventive entries, it was really hard to narrow it down to five. Now get your votes in, and help us pick our lucky winner!

Yup, I think it's number 4 for me too. I like the Edward Scissorhands, and I'm all for family togetherness, but that Gen. Grievous shows some serious creativity. Plus, it leaves your hands free for grabbing candy.

The napoleon Dynamite costume shouldn't even be on the list since all the guy did was buy some old suit. That's lame and easy. The Grevious costume is very impressive, but who the hell works that hard on a costume of such a stupid character? I disqualify him on grounds that his costume reminded me that such a terrible blemish added to the majr disappointment that was the prequel Star Wars trilogy. Just when all thoughts of Grevious' lack of bad-ass scenes killing Jedis, ridiculous coughing, and horrible death scene were almost gone from my mind, this @$$hole had to go and stoke the fires.
My vote goes to Edward Scissorhands. His costume looks like it was easily the hardest to make, the most eye-catching, and the most fun. For one thing, he IS Edward Scissorhands, not just like 30% of Grevious' stupid, "never-should-have-been-imagined" upper body.

I'm gonna throw a sympathy vote to the Star Wars clan. The costumes are cute, they haven't got any votes yet, plus there's something about passing your geekery on to your children that always makes me smile.
All five finalists are quite solid, though. Well done, costume-makers.

Voting for #4, General Grievous
You can see the person "inside" the costume if you look closely. Even though I didn't bother watching the prequels, this one's really impressive.
Scissorhands and Jack/Sally are also pretty good, but both lose points because I've seen these costumes done this well so many times before. The Star Wars family is very cute. And I feel sorry for Napoleon Dynamite, who probably can't win because the character's costume is street clothes. The perm's a nice touch though.
