Iron Man Goes Home

A week or so ago we mentioned rumblings of New Line losing/giving up their rights to an Iron Man picture, and the news is now official. Marvel has regained the rights to Iron Man, and is now reportedly looking into producing the film itself, possibly as part of the slate deal it has recently acquired with Paramount. If they go that route, though, they will need to raise additional money for it, as it was not listed in the original
I for one really hope that this film eventually gets some traction, and now that it is back at Marvel I think it’s got a pretty good shot. I’m a big Tony Stark fan myself, so I’ve had high hopes for this movie ever since New Line optioned it, and was really disappointed with each failure in their efforts to make it happen. Now let’s just hope that Marvel is capable of finding that “right” talent. Suggestions for Marvel?

One suggestion here: please don't go for a big name actor for Tony Stark. No Tom Cruise, no The Rock. Pick someone from a wide talent pool of indie and stage actors who's got the best acting chops and look for the part. Think Jackman as Wolverine. The best part about this is makes the budget more manageable and means you can sign them for 3 movies.
I'm also very interested to see what the do with the origin story here. Tony Stark started out making the Iron Man armor suit to escape from the Viet Cong who were holding him prisoner. I'm not sure that would work too well anymore (though it would be an interesting challenge), so what are they going to do for his new origin.

As long as Avi Arad is exec producing (+ "ghost directing") I have little to no faith in "Iron Man" flying. And I love this character. Pity.

Originally Tony Stark's motivation to design the suit was that his heart was weak, and he could not perform even slightly taxing jobs. The Viet Cong origin must have come in one of the later incarnations, as his first appearance and origin date to 3/63 in Tales of Suspense #39.
Although it seems there will be an even longer delay now on this film's production, I'm happy Marvel has regained the rights because they will do it right. In my opinion the suit should be grey, at least at first (maybe a prototype that isn't ready but some emergency deems it necessary to use). I'm somewhat doubtful that Ironman as a solo hero can carry more than 1 film (see Daredevil) but wouldn't an Avengers movie be fun? Additional suits or armor could be revealed there.
It's a fun time to be alive and a Marvel fan. Some of us have been waiting a long time for these films. Some things in life prove worth the wait.

Tom Cruise would ruin this film.
