Bruce Willis hunts terrorists
...and, no, we're not talking about Die Hard 4.0 again. Bruce Willis – a long-suffering Republican in the bluest labor pool in the nation – went on MSNBC last week and offered a $1 million reward to any civillian who turns in Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri or Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. The semi-professional pretend terrorist assassin told Rita Cosby that he's "baffled" over the media's crazy preoccupation with reporting negative news from Iraq. "The things that I saw happening in Iraq, really good things happening in Iraq, are not being reported on," he said. Willis went on to drop hints that he might make a film about Deuce Four, a band of soldiers whose activites have been chronicled by embedded blogger Michael Yon.

I'm with Willis on this. I am sick and tired of the mass media labeling this war "another Vietnam"*. Iraq is not Vietnam. North Vietnam and the supposedly independent Viet Cong never surrendered. Nor is 2,000 dead in Iraq is any way equal to losing 56,000 lives in a conflict we did not win due to the lack of political will amongst the populace.
There's just no comparison other than some fabrication of what became the justification for going to war which in fact is a time-honored tradition for this country ever since the original Revolution, or at the very least dating back in modern American history to the Spanish American War.
Point is, we won. Our forces have outlasted the insurgency of the Shi'ites and we're coming up on the (non-al Quaeda)Sunni insurgents ending their pointless rebellion as well. They've been putting out the peace feelers for a week now and wish to lay down their arms in exchange for a timed commitment of the Coalition forces pulling out (whether they think they can actually win elections in a democratic state or secretly plan for a future civil war is a different story). That's a victory.
If Bruce Willis wishes to pony up money to bring in Bin Laden & Co., so be it. Its smart of him to do so because it is only a matter of time before those folks decide to kidnap and execute American celebrities for shock value. It just became known this past week that they are also targeting the Queen and her family too.
What would I like to see? Bruce Willis teaming up with John Milius. Now that would rock!
*I'd also like to make mention that I do not believe it is proof of a liberal bias of the mass media to label the war "another Vietnam". I think it has more to do with peddling controversy to generate more money than any political bias. Controversy and scandal sell. Stories of good people and good deeds only sell in terms of the religion industry.

Good to hear that someone in Hollywood is supporting the troops. Clueless liberals out there are thoroughly annoying...

Two thumbs up, says I. At first glance, this might seem like one actor's jingoistic attempt to grab some publicity, but I think that's just because of Hollywood's almost unanimous trashing of this war and everything attached to it. I'm in total agreement with The Jeremy's assesment of the situation, and I'm glad that Bruce Willis is able to contribute to current awareness and it's refreshing to see a celebrity putting his money where his mouth is.

You psycho-patriots are deluded. Bin Laden is 90% probable dead already - you didn't know this because you live inside the USA with a bag over your heads. Pathetic posturing by Willis, and any number of dissociated fools, does not change the facts on the ground - your military in Iraq is fighting an unwinnable situation - a civilian population that does not want your forces there. Vietnam was a defeat, pure and simple; any American who cannot admit this is patently incapable of objective comment on the current Iraq quagmire. You people are doomed, totally. Peak Oil will crush your suburban economy, and your attempts to use brute force now, in an effort to stave of this inevitability, just highlight your ignorance. Die screaming, clowns.

I truly admire Bruce Willis' good intentions and his decision to put his money towards something important to the world. But the American government should be thinking about wrapping up this mess and bringing our troops home. Too many lives have been lost already. You cannot win a religious war. These people have been fighting for hundreds and hundreds of years. It's time we started securing our country and building a supreme defense system against the evils in the world. There were no weapons of mass distruction found. Bush should be impeached for lying to the American public. Clinton was impeached for lesser reasons compared to this mess that is costing lives.

Have you noticed that those comments that support the war and President Bush are calm, articulate, and well thought out, while those that oppose are shrill, baseless, and vitriolic?

My son is in Northern Iraq. He is an tanker with the 3rd Armored Cavalry. I know that he believes in the freedom of the Iraqi people. He hates Iraq because it is a third world mess. He just does his job and does it well. He will kiss U.S. soil when he comes back home in a few months. I watch the news online and on TV for some inkling of information about the area he is in. Bruce Willis right. The humanitarian acts, the battle victories, the Iraqi experience are not being reported by the press. There are simply too many fat cat, talking heads on cable news. I hope Mr. Willis' movie is even more powerful than "Saving Private Ryan." I hope it is truthful and not special effects bravado. I hope it leads to an Operation Iraqi Freedom Memorial, to historic recognition worthy of study in schools and universities. I hope my son will live to see the movie and say that it is a real picture of his front line experience.

I'm glad that there are still real americans in hollywood. Bruce Willis is perfect for setting the record straight.
By the way, we didn't lose in Vietnam, we gave up. There is a difference. This one is worth the wait. Best of luck Mr. Willis.
In WWII, hollywood was on the side of america. Now, it doesn't look that way.
Our troops need to have the truth told. For their sake - for our sake. You are the man to do it!

I agree diluted fascists in blind call towards nationalism? The real benefactors of this war The Carlyle Group a defense company in Washington (private) that has amounted to billions of dollars in profits since the first gulf war. Guess who gets the pocket. Oh Bush Sr. does 'friendly' speeches for them at a nice price of $100,000 and multiple former neo-cons have gained immensely financially. You false patriots are just feeding the elite not yourselves. Real patriotism is not blind faith but confronting oppression and telling the opressor to stop even if it be our own selves, which is the hardest (introspection).

Hey Al, Why don't you listen to Sharon? Most americans agree with her. It's just the noisy-whiney surrender-crats that get the attention.
Are you equally concerned about corporate interests when Loral rec'd millions for illegally selling nuclear missile guidance technology to the Chinese during the Clinton administration? Did you care that Bernie Schwartz (Loral CEO) was the largest contributor to the DNC?
You probably would have been against the American Civil War because Northern firearm manufacturers benefitted. It must be frustrating living in your little marxist world.
