Cameron Diaz unexpectedly conquers Britain
Filed under: New Releases, Box Office, Cameron Crowe
In Her Shoes, the Toni Colette/Cameron Diaz/Curtis Hanson collaboration that virtually disapeared as soon as it opened in the States, has now conquered the UK box office. As much as I'd like to tell you this happened because the Brits have an appreciation for Shirley MacLaine that we, sadly, cannot keep up with, it would appear that the Shoes victory is more than likely based on a lack of tough competition. The second-place film of the weekend was Nanny McPhee, which stars Emma Thompson as some kind of "magical governess". The rest of the British top ten is literred with long-forgotten US releases, from the much-maligned (Elizabethtown) to the hysterically over-praised (The Constant Gardener).

Y'know, I actually think that this might have been because of Jonathon Ross. They were both on his show the other day to promote the movie. Sure, you can't expect one chat show host to make a movie, but word of mouth definitely counts in first week sales.
