Jet Li in Tekken
Filed under: Action, Casting, RumorMonger, Fandom, Games and Game Movies
Remember when Jet Li started being forceful about his desire to not do more poorly written action films anymore? Well, he’s getting over that hump by taking a lead role in the upcoming videogame adaptation Tekken, to be directed by Charles Stone III- whose biggest claim to fame is probably Drumline or Mr. 3000. Jet is going to play a character called “The Boxer.” For those of you out there who don’t know, Tekken (the movie) is the story of this dude who discovers he holds a great power and must battle a sequence of crazy powerful fighters who will stop at nothing in order to get it from him. A reasonably standard story for a PVP fighter.
You all know my opinion on videogame films. Tekken, in many ways, was a very fun video game series- do we really need to mar its name with a crappy action film? Of course, maybe this one will defy history and set box office records or something. Is there anyone out there in reader land who expects this to be good?

I loved Tekken, but mostly because of gameplay, which is hard to translate onto the screen. If they get some of the characters right, which will be hard since so many of the original fighters are based off of real actors and martial artists, it should be fun. I'm not expecting good, but we might get fun.

this ranks right up there with the still filming DEAD OR ALIVE movie based on the popular fighting game.
I like my game to stay games, just like comics need to stay comics. Also what about Drumline or Mr 3000 says "hey, that director would be totally qualified to take on a kung fu action movie!" its the stupidest idea since Mr & Mrs Boll not aborting their son UWE.

Tekken has just about one of the worst storylines ever conceived. These types of games are not created for stories, they're created for gameplay and graphics.
Not only will we have Tekken purists cursing about an unfaithful story, we will have everyone else scratching their heads, wondering how this junk ever got funded in the first place.

It could fun at best, with maybe some cool locations. I wonder if we'll see some creative fight scenes with baseball bats and drum sticks?! And a cameo by Bernie Mac - woohoo

Tekken was a fun game but I doubt a film on it will do well at the theater...
