Greenwald bashed by Bill O'Reilly
Filed under: Documentary, Celebrities and Controversy, Politics
Not to encourage the criticism that I'm running a shop full of lefty pinko commies, but enough people have emailed me this clip that I thought it was worth mentioning. It's no surprise that Fox News reportainer Bill O'Reilly is on the attack against Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price, but, as someone who doesn't regularly expose myself to it (yup, I'm red as raw meat, boys), it's always a tad shocking when I do get a glimpse of this level of rhetoric. O'Reilly, who claims that director Greenwald "just to the right of Fidel Castro", can barely surpress an f-bomb in labelling him "a ridiculous human being." And the Commie-baiting just keeps coming up – which I find a little strange. I can understand that O'Reilly feels strongly about free market economics – I do, too, actually – but his "there are traitors among us!" shtick seems awfully dated. It's as though O'Reilly recently watched Good Night, and Good Luck and got really mad and decided to pick up where – FIFTY YEARS AGO – McCarthy left off.

if the Wal-Mart flick is anything like "Outfoxed" was, O'Reilly is right on. "Outfoxed" was the biggest joke I've ever seen labeled as a "documentary," and that's with Michael Moore being prominent. I can't imagine this being much better.

Ideological bickering between two individuals = movie news????
I don't really understand why it's so hard for you to grasp that most people have no interest in politics in the movies or on the street. I think it's very nice that you're so politically inclined, and that you subscribe to the "Republicans Bad! Democrats Good!" strand of thinking, but can't you just, you know, leave those things out of this site, and just stick to the movie news?
I know it's a radical idea, and that far left folks like yourself think you know everything, and thus must "educate" the rest of us dummies -- but please, can't we just have movie news here?

Not every day you see people willing and wanting to stay ignorant. It's just news guys, sorry it doesn't make you happy.

Well, we do have two posts about a movie made by the "Outfoxed" guy in less than a few days. I'd say that demonstrates such a willingness, but maybe it's just me.

I wonder why red as raw meat Americans tend to relax on Wal-Mart when it comes to illegal aliens working inside the store. Aren't Republicans supposed to be tough on immigration? 125 illegal workers were just found at a Wal-Mart site.

Hey sam, maybe you should read the post before foaming at the mouth. You accuse the blogger of being "far left" when he's admitted to being Republican.
Your claim that "most people have no interest in politics in the movies" is so wrong. Fahrenheit 9/11 was the largest grossing documentary ever.

So what if Fahrenheit 9/11 was the largest grossing "documentary" ever ...it doesn't prove anything. Its like saying the majority of people are into killing because a certain movie is the largest grossing snuff film ever. Did you know the Titantic gross over a billion worldwide? How does Fahrenheit 9/11 compares to that? It might be hard to believe but documentaries are not that popular.
The author is a she btw ...last time I checked, "Karina" is a female name. You should take your own advice and read more carefully. Judging from her previous posts, I doubt Karina is a Republican ...at least not a true one :)

Bill O'Reilly is a scary, scummy, and dangerous man.
ALL movie fans know this! :)
Joking aside, Cinemtical is a privately-funded publication, and they've the right to publish whatever the hell they want. If the left-leaning perspective prickles you so mercilessly, why even come here at all?
If I found a movie site that I thought was preaching politics that I didn't like, I'd just stop reading it. (Brilliant, aren't I?) I can think of better ways to spend my time than just bitching at people for their own perspectives and opinions.
This is not the New York Times (thank jeebus), but a movie blog written by folks with their own opinions. Never knew Republicans were so threatened by the idea of free speech.

I'm a bit confused - Do you mean 'Red' in the 'Red State/Republikan' nomenclature, or the former 'USSR/Commie' vernacular?

I'm not sure such an outrageously biased, information free 'news' item before (no, I don't watch Fox).
Why do they bother going to the expense of getting Julia Boostin into the studio if, as soon as she starts to answer a question, O'Reilly is going to go off on his nonsensical and rhetorical rant?
