Clooney to direct Suburbicon
Filed under: Scripts, DIY/Filmmaking, George Clooney
One of the reasons why I feel George Clooney has been so successful in film as both an actor and now a director is because he's made sure to surround himself with other talented (Steven Soderbergh, the Coen brothers), and often groundbreaking filmmakers. With some predicting his latest, Good Night, and Good Luck, to slide into the best picture category at the Oscars, this one-time television actor may soon find himself among an elite group.
I mean, you have to be pretty good if the Coen brothers are offering for you to direct their scripts, right? That's exactly what's apparently happened with Suburbicon; a dark comedy that was written by the Coen's, but because of other commitments, it's remained in limbo. That was until Clooney came along and asked to take it on. He explains, "They offered me a part in Suburbicon a long time ago, and since then they decided they have other projects they want to work on. So I called them up and said "How about me taking a spin at it?"
Not much is being said regarding plot (killer robot from the suburbs?), except that Clooney describes it as a "really interesting, really funny, very dark comedy." So basically you're describing every Coen brother's film, George? Yeah, that doesn't help. Now, don't get too excited about this news because right now it looks like Suburbicon won't start shooting for at least a year.

Looks like Clooney is following the footstep of Mel Gibson and the likes.

To be fair, Erik gave accurate citation to Dark Horizons, and DH's citation is listed as Empire. I don't think there's any "theft" of movie news. If he saw the news at your site, he would have cited it.
(Cool blog, tho. I dig it.)

Exactly Scott. Sorry if you think I "stole" from your site, but I saw it first on Dark Horizons and so I used them as my source.
