James Cameron needs a Battle Angel

It's been rumored for a while now that James Cameron's next movie project will be a live-action adaptation of Battle Angel, a popular manga (called Gunnm in Japan) that has already been brought to screen as anime. Well, Based on a recent casting call, the movie is definitely happening - and, potentially at least, it's going to have an unknown in the role of Alita, a warrior robot chick. Needless to say, the lady is hot. Additionally (at least according to the text of the call), "She moves and behaves with confidence and a sense of nobility. Lithe as a cat. Athletic and agile, she is a warrior." Rowr. According to the full text of the casting call, anyone between about 16 and 29 will be considered, regardless of ethnicity (hotness is assumed, of course). One online resource claims that the character as drawn somewhat resembles Kate Beckinsale and Mia Kirshner, except younger, and wearing tighter clothes. Gunnma fans, if you were in charge, who would you cast as Alita?

someone small, I hope. gally/alita is very small in the manga, it would look just plain wrong if they cast someone too big.

It just seems to me that any time a movie like this is getting made, casting folks immediately try to shoehorn in some of-the-moment starlet into a role she has no sane right to be playing (Aeon flux anyone?).
The perfect fit for Alita is most definitely **not** someone we know about. She's probably some very ambitiously hungry, small, Asian actress (with octopus lips) who knows and loves the material already.
In the end, I imagine those drinking the Hollywood Kool-Aid will win out and destroy yet another amazingly loved story/character.

I'll add Ziyi Zhang (or, according to IMDB is sometimes credited as Zhang Ziyi). From her work in Crouching Tiger, House of Flying Daggers, and others, we know she can do action.

If it's a credited source, it seems it won't matter if the girl's asian. I mean, they do say "any ethnicity" after all. So, I guess they'd mostly center on the body type, aside from great movement ability, acting training, etc.

I think this is totally wrong. The movie is gonna be about the 2 first volumes of the manga, right? And Gally looks like a little girl in those! not sexy at all... she get's more grown up after the motorball.
