Patrick Stewart talks up new Trek film

According to TrekWeb, Patrick Stewart told the UK's Teletext that he is currently involved in some pretty serious Star Trek discussions. Contrary to rumors surrounding Paramount's quest to put forth a prequel featuring an all new cast and called Star Trek: The Beginning, Stewart is making it sound as if that may not be the case.
He explains, "About four months ago at a meeting in Los Angeles the subject was raised quite seriously from a very interesting point of view. I have been saying for four years now that it's over. No fantasies about it coming back, the space suits have been hung up for good. But there are weighty people in Hollywood who are very interested in one more run around the holodeck. There are serious plans. I was told this may happen two or three years down the road, by which time I'll be able to sit again in the captain's chair, but then again, it's not all that far away and if I'm in good shape I'd love to do it."
Following the news that Bryan Singer may be interested in directing a new Trek, and seeing as him and Stewart are more than familiar with one another (X-Men, anyone?), could this thing really be going down? Which would you rather see: A prequel full of unknowns or another go-round with Captain Jean-Luc Picard and friends?

Honestly, I'd rather see a prequel. I would love to see more of the history of the intergalactic program. With the exception of Dumb and Dumberer, I love all these prequels.

I'd be open to a new film in either direction, as long as it was actually a good script, something we really haven't seen since 'First Contact.' And, quite honestly, I don't think we'll see anything good from "the franchise" as long as Rick Berman and Brannon Braga are in the driver's seats. (Braga's "Threshold" was just starting to get interesting, but this is about film, not TV.) It would be interesting to see if Singer's ego would clash with B&B's collective might as producers.

Braga is gone. Personally I would like to see a new one considering the last one was garbage as it lacked all the personality that made the Next Generation crew so good.

I'd like to see TNG in one more film.Even have Picard retire or promoted and have Riker resume some of the continuing missions. With some TNG folks and some new folks.Riker could be on Romulas (after Nemesis) and maybe run into Spock(who is still there).Or find a way the let Captain Kirk live again.Or they could(with the help of the Voyager crew)start exploring the Delta Quadrant. There is so much that can be done...keep going forward...
By the way...I loved Nemesis.Everyone else, must have seen another film...

I agree that the B&B team needs to go.
There is a very simple solution to this fantasy.
Both Bryan Singer AND J. Michael Strazinsky have expressed interest in doing a Star Trek project.
J. Michael is an amazing writer and producer, example Bablyon 5. Singer is familiar with genre.
Also, bag the idea of a prequel film.
Here is what they need to do...
A film based in the 24th century where in all the shows' characters could possible be incorporated. It should be a series of films "battling for the survival of the the Federation." Something where the galaxy takes huge hits and the series depicts the near collapse and then "Pheonix like rise" of Civilized beings... of course, Star Trek: TNG, DS9, Voyager would be the lead characters. Also, you could time travel stuff involving Captain Sulu, and those in the 23rd century whose fates are unkown.
The end of the film series could launch a whole new spin on Star Trek.
While developing the film series, develop and air a new Star Trek: Anthology series where ANY ship/crew known, or unknown may be featured. Perhaps, it could be based at Star fleet academy --- after the pheonix films series concludes.... so, you know the Federation survives... just not how... and how far in the future.
Now, that I have saved Star Trek what else can a mere Android do?

I would like to see any thing based on Gene's vision for star trek.

Prequel shmequel! I'd rather keep seeing Picard and the rest of the awesome cast doing what they do best instead of a bunch of unkowns clearing up Trek history, which needs no more clearing up, for that matter.

I would like to see Paramount do an open cast call to all the Star Trek actors from all the series' and write a script around those characters, making not just another TNG film but a film involving all the Star Trek genres.

I really, really hope this happens. The TNG saga just CANT end with Nemesis... itd be such an injustice to the franchise.
