Scarlett Johansson joins The Prestige

Scarlett Johansson (who seems to have become the female version of Steve Carell in her quest to rule the cinematic world) is in talks to join the already impressive cast of Christopher Nolan's The Prestige. As you may or may not recall, the movie is based on Christopher Priest's award-winning novel about dueling 19th century magicians, and the cast already includes Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale, as well as David Bowie (as electricity maven Nikola Tesla). Johansson will play Olive, a talented magician's assistant who is sent by Jackman's character to spy on his rival (Bale). I'm in the middle of reading this book and was pretty disappointed (my expectations were very high) until I got to about page 100 when, suddenly, the thing just took off. Suffice to say I'm now looking forward to the movie with an eagerness that borders on creepy. Production is set to begin next month, so hopefully we'll be seeing something - Stills? Teasers? - by the middle of next year.
Has anyone else read this book? Are you as excited as I am?

I read the book TWICE - the second time to catch all the clues I missed the first time! Loved the book! But if I remember correctly Scarlett is sent by Hugh's character to spy on Christian's character. Hugh is playing Angier and Christian is Borden.

I haven't read the book, but will check it out this weekend. It sounds like an interesting film project. Another, more recent book that might make a good film along a similar vein, might be "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell" (which I thought was very good).

>>Is this like David Copperfield vs. Pen/Teller?<<
It's not that simple - the book was just like a magician's trick - things do not appear as they seem! This is going to make a fantastic movie.
