Alec Baldwin, Kim Basinger, and the manipulative powers of chocolate
Filed under: Celebrities and Controversy
I haven't really been following the Kim Basinger/Alec Baldwin custody trial, partially because the daily celebrity marriage/birth/divorce train bores me to tears, but mostly because this particular example smacks of stuntwork – just two fading/aging stars attempting to one up one another in divorce court to keep their respective names in print. But certain phrases just pop right out of the feed reader, and "brainwashing daughter with chocolate bars" is one of them. To get you up to speed: Baldwin has dragged Basinger back into court to seek sole custody of their 10-year-old daughter, Ireland, after alleging that the actress has violated their current custody agreement. In court papers, Baldwin claims that Basinger gave the child specially made chocolate bars with "maniupulative messages" printed on the wrappers. One example sited by Baldwin: "To my daughter Ireland, who gave me the strength, courage and tenacity to stand up for myself... Mom." If you're searching for the scorching example of manipulation there, you're not the only one. According to Baldwin, such inscriptions are examples of "the false message she continues to send our daughter ... that she needs protection from her father." But don't you think that if Kim Basinger wanted to brainwash someone, she might be able to do a better job of it than that?

i went through something similar with my ex over the custody of our son. we had our day in court and i was granted primary custody of our son. regardless of my feelings towards my son's father, i will never bad mouth him in front of my son and he is allowed to call and to see my son any time he wants as long as it doesn't interrupt his schooling. kim keeping ireland from seeing or talking to her father is absolutely ridiculous and it just shows what kind of a mother she is. all alec wants is more time and phone calls with his only child and he has to pay one million dollars, and counting, for this. kim should be ashamed! and yes, i will stick up for alec because not only is it his right to see his child, but also in my eyes this man can do no wrong.

These comments blew off all previous opinion with her final words,"in my eyes this man can do no wrong". How can any human being in their 'right' mind take anything she writes seriously after a comment like that? I sympathize with her own difficult experience with her ex but that in no way makes her clairvoyant as to the deepth of passion or emotional dysfunction of the Baldwin family collectively, Alec exclusivly, with the exception of the one brother, Steven who has managed to pull himself out of the violent quagmire that trademarks this unfortunate family. Ms. Basinger radiates genuine motherly tenderness with the young child actresses she works with in her film career. This is a stark contrast to the personal life, public and private, of Alec who excells in egocentric arrogance par excellance. Poor baby!
