Trek news: Kirk is back!

I don't even know if I should write this post because I'm not sure you can handle it. If true, this could possibly be some of the most explosive Star Trek news in some time. Not long ago, I told you how Patrick Stewart was talking up a new Trek film in which he would return to the holodeck as Captain Picard. My friends, that is just the beginning - things could get a whole lot crazier.
According to a scooper over at CanMag.com, there's rumors that, as previously reported, this new film will not be a prequel full of unknowns. In fact, it is said to take place in a "mirror" universe, where folks from the past, present and future can all hang out and talk shop. Yeah, you know what I'm about to say next, right? Word right now is that, not only will Picard be in the film, but Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and Captain Archer (Scott Bakula). Bonkers!
Now, this "mirror universe" is nothing new to Star Trek; we've seen it before. But it would be very interesting to see the three Captains share the same screen. Apparently, this whole thing got started when Shatner turned down a role on Enterprise due to little money and the fact that he'd rather act in another film. I'd be real curious to see how you hardcore Trek fans feel about this, so have at it.

One of the main draws of the shows/movies is the characters. This could work.
One thing to work around would be Kirk's character. I mean he now longer really looks like a Captain - maybe a retired Captain?

Could be cool, if done correctly. And somebody needs to put Mr. Shatner on a treadmill before he explodes.

I would love to see a decent new start trek film. I would love to see something with TNG crew and Voyager meet up. Especially with what Voyager has learned from the Delta Quadrant

Yes, yes, Kirk, Archer and Picard are all well and good. But what about the other captains of the Enterprise? Chris Pike? Will Decker? Stephen Collins will have some time now that "7th Heaven" is over.
Of course, no Trek movie could be complete without Ben Sisko. They must figure out some way to get Hawk in it. Heck, they could do a feature-length version of "In the Pale Moonlight" and I'd see it ten times.

This could work, if the writing was done by a true Star Trek story book author and then having the right producer & Director. For instance, Jonathan Frakes or Lenord Nemoy, or the director and writer that put together the Wrath of Khan, which in my opinion was one of the best Trek movies ever made. With the right script/producer and director to do this venture, it could be awesome. Steve Stewart

I'll buy a ticket! I really hated the ending of *Generations* with the alleged death of Kirk. I thought that was cheap. Long live Kirk!
Perhaps they should hire JMS or RDM to write the screenplay...

The Mirror universe would be sweet, would it be similar to the Earth Empire??
Because the Enterprise attacking a helpless civilization gives me goosbumps...

I think that Trek movies should continue to go forward rather than backward. This is not to say that I'm not big on Trek's past...I'm just anxious to see what's happening now. If they don't want to do another TNG movie yet, why not go ahead and do something with DS9? I seem to remember that series ending on a cliffhanger. Voyager was wrapped up; Enterprise, in my opinion, shouldn't have been made at all. I say move on to DS9, because it's got the most potential right now.

What a terrible idea. I think the original post was actually a joke and everyone is falling for it.

I actually liked the idea of a trek film that went even further back than enterprise.
Imagine a Trek film that was set in the present day - or in the near future. Star Trek has always been about an idylic time - and Roddenberry's vision included Earth as a paradise - perhaps we could see a political movie that reflects on decisions we need to make today in order to have that political paradise.
