Missing Netflix? The mailman did it!
Filed under: Tech Stuff, Home Entertainment
I swear, this has happened to me: two postal
workers in Denver have been charges with stealing hundreds of Netflix DVDs over a two month period. It's unclear
whether or not the bandits worked together: police first apprehended Gloria Flores after catching her leaving the post
office with six Netflix envelopes not addressed to her. The local police, assuming they'd caught the sole culprit,
patted one another on the back and called it a day. But a couple of months later, Netflix customers in the area were
still reporting missing DVDs, so the cops went undercover. They eventually started following another postal lady named
Karen Durante. After following her to a gas station and watching her throw away 33 Netflix envelopes, all empty and all
addressed to other customers, Durante was arrested. Interesting side note: Durante was also spotted trashing a single,
solitary Blockbuster envelope. Poor Blockbuster – they don't even appeal to thieves.[via Hacking Netflix]

I knew it! A lot of my Netflix DVDs have gone missing, and I suspected the post office.
Now they have arrested and lost their job when they could had just spent $20 a month and gotten all the DVDs they wanted.

How stupid can you get, stealing 33 of them in one day? Please. You have to wonder if she wasn't eBaying them. Like so many theives she was caught simply because she was too greedy.

Moral of the story:
Don't trust female postal workers with your DVD rentals.

we were using netflix for a little while, but they didn't get a few of the DVD's we mailed back. I switched to blockbuster and they've recieved every single one... they're cheaper too.

the USPS sends Netflix DVD's through the same high-speed sorting machines used for all letter mail. Though these machines are not really efficient paper shredders, it's hard to imagine that a DVD will play at all after a ride through one of these manglers.

I've been using Netflix for almost a year, and I have had several movies never show up. However, they have received every movie I have sent back. I don't put my returns in the mailbox, but bring them to the Post Office personally to have them sent out, so the mail carrier cannot get her hands on them after I see them. Some friends of mine in the area have had the same problem. Damn thieving mail carriers.

You have a slight spelling error:
n Denver have been charges with stealing hundreds of Netflix
it should be "have been charge_d_"
Cheers!

I'm in a far north suburb of Chicago. I pretty much get next day service from Netflix (I send back to them on Monday, they recieve and ship out my new disc on Tuesday, I receive it on Wednesday.) Blockbuster in this area takes 4 - 6 days for the same process. Plus BB is NOT less expensive, as someone previously stated. Both service's 3 at a time plans are $17.99 a month. BB actually works out to be more expensive when you factor in turn-around time and realize that you can't get as many films from BB per month as you can with NF.
I've known my mailcarrier for nearly 20 years and know she's trustworthy. So far, in my year and a half with NF I've not had a single disc go missing. A couple seem to have gotten hung up in shipping along the way and taken much longer than normal to get here, but they've all eventually shown up. I think that outta the 250ish discs I've gotten, I've ended up with 4 ot 5 that had some physical defect that kept me from viewing them.
Streaming services like CinemaNow are FAR from being a viable alternative. First off, their selection lags WAY behind NF (or even BB). Sure, if I wanted to watch "Stealth" I could get that. But who in their right mind wants to watch "Stealth"? Not a single one of the top 10 in my current NF queue is avilable from CinemaNow. And these aren't particularly esoteric movies here. The Outsiders, Highlander: The Series, Napolean Dynamite? Not available? Plus, I seldom watch dvds on my computer. That's what the big screen TV is for. Or the 7" portable player. And a 24 hour time limit? No thanks. And finally, a big draw of DVD's for me is the extra material. Commentaries, documentaries, etc.
These broadband services may some day become a worthwhile addition to physical discs, but they're a LONG way from being so.

I live in Louisville, CO and i havent had any issues with my netflix DVDs dissapearing, nor have my roomates. However when i lived in Boulder there was quite a bit of mail that never showed up. Magazines, Credit card bills and personal mail too. I Blame the Dirty Hippies, and its not like i could get the cops involved. They couldnt even catch Jon Benays killer. (hint: its her parents)

If you steal, the question is, "How cheap will you sell you job?" Evidently these particular Postal Employees are selling their jobs cheap!

i sent 10 home burnt cds and a 1/4 pound of home roasted coffee via postal annex(and i did not request a reciept,my fault)to new york state from california. needless to say,the "valued employees" enjoyed the tasty coffee and excellent music. lesson learned-don`t use postal annex and take your packages to a real post office. also get a receipt.
