Heath Ledger likes it that theaters are banning Brokeback

Brokeback Mountain star Heath Ledger thinks it's great that some
theaters in Utah and West Virgina are banning his gay cowboy sheepherder flick, because people
who want to see it will just catch it at a rival chain, and the theater bosses will lose money for making "dumb
decisions". Ledger reportedly said, "I heard, at one point, that West Virginia was going to ban it, but
that's a state that was still lynching people until about 20 years ago." Geez, Heath, keep up with your American
history. That was Mississippi, not West Virginia.
Brokeback Mountain picked up three Critics Choice Awards, including one for Best Picture, which makes it the odds-on fave for a golden statuette come Oscar night. Heck, even Gene Shalit apologized for calling Jake Gyllenhaal's character a sexual predator. But if Ledger keeps making comments like the those, he may have to reconsider signing on to any film that shoots in Utah or West Virginia. I hear they're fond of the second amendment around those parts, too.

Yeah, everytime an Australian tries to tell me what my ancestors used to do, I have to fight back the urge to tell him about what his ancestors used to do. I mean, they wouldn't be Australians otherwise, right?

Lynching still goes on in the US, in the Northern States. Except it is by black people against Koreans, Jews and Whites. So I guess that makes it alright by Mr Ledger, after all when Al Sharpton whips a crowd into a frenzy and tells them to go lynch a particular person, he's just exercising free speech.

I think Heath Has the right to say those things about Utah and West Virgina. He's right, I live in Ventura and i drove somwhere else to see Brokeback Mountain my 1st time because it hadn't came out here yet.. which when it did i saw it 3 more times :) ,But If he works hard on a film and people want to ban it because they are Homophobes then that gives him the right to comment back. There are lots of people that want to see that movie and will drive other places to see it. So who cares if they get butthurt about it. He doesn't need them. The movie did a Fabulous job on its own.

We should all commend Heath for his pro equal rights, pro gay rights, pro civil rights stance and his amazing performance. Likewise, we should also applaud Jake's performance and willingness to bring his talent to this important film.
