More on The Prestige

The
Prestige, Christopher Nolan's tale of rival magicians in
Victorian London, has a great cast (Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, David
Bowie) and an awesome source novel (by Christopher Priest), both
of which, combined with Nolan's own name, have created a steadily-growing buzz about the film. And those who are
looking forward to it are only going to get more excited when they read the latest update on the film at AICN.First of all, their spy reports that Andy Serkis has been added to the cast in the small but pivotal role of Mr. Alley, Bowie's/Tesla's assistant. Though Alley isn't a major character, he's one of the most appealing in the novel, and it's reassuring to hear that Nolan isn't either pushing him into the background or eliminating him entirely. Second, the tipster has seen both the screenplay and possibly a bit of footage (which seems impossible, since the movie just started shooting - he may be describing the script) from the Tesla sequences, and both sound incredible. Though the spy clearly hasn't read the book, his description of the script (written by Nolan and his brother Jonathan, who wrote the story on which Memento was based) makes it sound as if it's very faithful to Priest's novel, which is more wonderful news.
There's no release date yet set for the movie, but it's due out sometime this year. Hopefully the reports that follow will as encouraging as this one - personally, I can't freaking wait.

Eva, it's on one of the American editions of the book - a hardback one, I think. And according to IMDBpro, the movie is being shot in LA.
