Golden Globes: Lifetime Achievement

Wearing the ugliest dress of the evening - a pale
yellow number with sleeves and a neckline that would be unflattering on anyone - Gwyneth Paltrow is presenting the Cecil
B. DeMille award to Anthony Hopkins. He's looking very ruddy and a
bit frightened, which is probably how most people react to a close encounter with Gwyn. Lord, could there be anything
more awkward than sitting in front of a room full of people, watching yourself on a big screen while in a spotlight and
on TV? What an utter nightmare. Hopkins is dealing with it by not moving, even to blink. As good an approach as any,
probably. Confirmed: he's a good actor. Objection: no focus on Nixon, which features what is possibly his best performance. They saved The Silence of the Lambs for a clip feature of its own, calling Hannibal Lecter "The greatest villain the screen has ever known." Uh, wow. That's quite an assertion, Hollywood Foreign Press. Darth Vader would strangle you from across the room for much less than that.
Aw. A very classy speech from Sir Anthony, with a chunk of very thoughtful thanks for the film crews, who "work harder than anyone...lugging those cables around at nighttime." Is that the first time anyone's ever slowed the speech-giving down enough to thank those people? Very nice.

Ugliest dress?!? What in the heck. That was one of the most regal, elegant dresses of the evening. And Paltrow fit into it perfectly.
Oh, sorry, I forgot. She should have had cleavage pouring out onto the floor and the dress should've been eye-blindingly bright green satin. How foolish of me. *slaps forehead*

Have to agree that the dress Paltrow wore was supremely unflattering to her, especially those flimsy bubble sleeves. She looked like she had just walked off the set of Heidi. Ugh. And, no, she didn't need to look sexy with cleavage, but how about simply pretty or sophisticated or whatever. Just not this Heidi-of-the-Alps look.

Why did Gwyneth Paltow keep prouncing Anthony Hopkins first name as "An-tony" without the "h"? Is he suddenly Italian?

The thing that stood out to me the most about the dress was that it looked kind of Renaissance or something. Kisd of queen-like. I guess something like that might have made more sense back in '99 when she won the globe for Shakespeare in Love.
I agree about the Ant'ony thing. That was kinda weird. Is that how he pronounces it??

is it just me, or was the whole gwynnie/an*T*ony thing a huge train wreck? forget the dress -- what about her struggling to keep from lapsing into an affected british accent? or that 'best actor ever' gushing? and then it was like hopkins had no clue that he'd be expected to get up there and speak afterward. it was so awkward i had to look away!

Some of you numbskulls are showing your ignorance. Paltrow's way of saying Hopkins's name was quite correct. Hopkins is a Brit, and Brits never pronounce the "h" in Anthony.
