Sundance Deals: Somebodies to be picked up by ... somebody
Filed under: Independent, Deals, Sundance, Distribution, Cinematical Indie
Somebodies, which had
its first public screening yesterday, screened again this morning to a crowd likely influenced by a hugely
positive notice from our buddy Roger Ebert. The film, Ebert writes, "is not uplifting or angry or about drugs or
crime or sports or music or sex. It is about ordinary young people who are very, very funny because they don’t
seem to know they’re in a movie, and aren’t performing for any imagined audience, black or white. Their
purpose is to celebrate themselves." I talked to the sales agent for Somebodies this morning, and he told
me that director Hadjii Hand is currently talking to four potential distributors, and hope to close a deal this weekend.
Kim is seeing the film today and will have a report soon; check back for today's installment of our Party Tracker for
related news.
