With the success of Starsky & Hutch, the drooling masses who turned up to ogle Jessica
Simpson's Daisy Dukes-clad ass in The Dukes of
Hazzard, and the imminent arrival of Miami
Vice, it was pretty much inevitable that somebody would eventually decide that Magnum,
P.I. would also be a cash cow. That somebody turned out to be both a wise suit at Universal, who have long held
the rights, and Brian
Grazer, who will be producing the film (through Imagine Entertainment). The screenplay will be written and directed
by Rawson Marshall Thurber, who penned both Dodgeball and the brilliant Terry Tate, Office Linebacker short that was turned into possibly
the best Super Bowl ad of all time.As someone who loved Magnum as a kid and was shocked to discover as an adult that it's often well-acted and surprisingly well-written, I read this news with a bit of trepidation. Since the big screen version of TV shows that have been most successful have been incredibly campy (affectionate, I admit, but still campy), I was worried that the same approach would be taken with this adaptation. Somehow that just seems wrong, not to mention weirdly disrespectful of a pretty complex TV show. But then I got to the good part of the article: according to the Hollywood Reporter, the film will not be a "spoof but rather something akin to the tone of the show, which mixed humor and danger." Excellent. Now I'm officially not completely scared.

Right there with you Baby. If they can do it without the idiocy of all of the other TV to Movie projects I will be pleasantly surprised. Don't mess with my Magnum!!

Colin Ferrell is too short to play Magnum ;) Maybe they'll get Will Smith - he did such a nice job of destroying Wild Wild West...

There will only be one Magnum PI. I didn't like the remake of the Dukes of Hazard and I'd hate to see that show turned into something far out.

This sounds like a good Movie! I don't know about letting Rawson Marshall Thurber pen the script. Dodgeball and that comercial were ment to be funny, Magnum is as serious as a heart attack Baby!
Would love to see a real action guy play Magnum. Bruce Willis would be good!

I think a Magnum movie without Selleck and the gang would be as big of a dissaster as taking the mask away from the orginial Lone Ranger. The American people will not stand for it. Or in this case go see it.

How could they use anything but a 308. I wish they wouldn't attempt to make this movie. Magnum is a great show and I don't want to see people ruin it just to line their pockets with $$$.

NOOOOOOO!!!!
As a resident of Hawaii who grew up on Magnum and wishing I could grow a cool mustache like Tom Selleck, I hope to God this is a bad joke!!
Hollywood has not made one good movie version of a television show, ever!
Personally, I think if they try to make T.J. Hooker into a movie, it will be a sign of the apocolypse!

Will he be as sexy as he was now that he's about 60?

I heard a man comment years back that no man in his right mind would ever let his woman watch Magnum PI. Well Tom Selleck is still great no matter what role he plays. I can't even think of anyone who could possibly play Magnum today. Good luck.

Thomas Magnum and company were humorous, each with flaws, good natures, and a sort of a situational irony surrounding them. We loved the show, and would love to see a movie version, but would prefer to see the characters be very similar to the originals.

I believe Josh Duhamel from the show "Vegas" and from "A Date with Tad Hamilton" would be a excellent choice to play Magnum. Nathan Lane as
"Higgins." Cuba Gooding Jr. as "T.C." Larry Jo Campbell as "Rick."
